Hundreds of thousands of Britons driven to food banks by poverty in the past year are seen as “collateral damage” by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), according to Chris Mould, chair of the Trussell Trust.
The Government has spent years in denial of the existence of food poverty and continues to threaten the charity for speaking out on the issue, he said.
Patients are still having their data extracted and shared by the NHS despite registering opt outs with their GP practice in 2013 and assurances that objections would be honoured by January 2016. The NHS’s own information centre has told Pulse they were unable to meet the deadline they had promised in November last year. Pulse understand this is pending the release of an independent review into patient consent and opt-outs by National Data Guardian, Dame Fiona Caldicott which was due last month. Pulse revealed last year that at least 700,000 patient had lodged objections to their data being shared around the NHS, many during the aborted launch of NHS England’s flagship record sharing drive, care.data. The story grabbed headlines after revealing the Health and Social Care Information had been forced to ignore
Nearly 14,000 disabled people who rely on a specialist motoring scheme have had their cars taken away following government welfare changes.
I can not for the life of me understand how the british public can stand by and allow this to happen. The Tories have been asked over and over to do an impact assessment of their welfare "Social Security" reforms and the effect on sick and disabled people; they have refused to do so, coming up with every lame excuse in the book because they know how bad the results are it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out, but putting them on paper for the whole world to see is a different story! In the meantime more and more sick and disabled people are paying the price and more and more with their lives. If you have an ounce of compassion or empathy within you please write a letter to your MP and the PM and spread the word about these horrific changes that do not protect the sick and disabled and the myth of austerity was only used to add to their lies and rhetoric and enable them to take from the most vulnerable in society. Please don't fall for their lies, rhetoric and excuses, there's no excuse - write and complain over and over again don't give up on the one's who need us most.
