Minister rejects calls to cancel Government's £3.7bn cuts to disability benefit

Minister rejects calls to cancel Government's £3.7bn cuts to disability benefit | Welfare, Disability, Politics and People's Right's | Scoop.it
A cabinet minister has rebuffed calls to cancel more than £3.7bn worth of cuts to a disability benefit, setting the scene for a showdown in Parliament. Patrick McLoughlin said ministers had to view the funding, which would go to people with conditions including epilepsy, diabetes and dementia, in the context of a wider need to reduce the UK’s budget deficit. Liberal Democrats have tabled a motion in the House of Lords, where the Conservatives are in a minority, that would undo the measure to severely restrict the benefit.

britishroses's insight:
Mental health and all that falls under that umbrella and how such things as anxiety, panic attacks, autism, etc., affect a person's mental health is individual and has to be treated that way. The judges are there for a reason and they made the correct decision, they did not make the decision so that you can sneak out changes cutting even more from our most vulnerable. Treating the majority of our most vulnerable in the manner that you have and continue to do is unacceptable and punishing them because of a minority of crooks is wrong. How many more people have to die because of your welfare reforms and because you know better than the specialists that have diagnosed them to begin with? People with invisible disabilities deserve better!

britishroses's insight:
What the hell are you doing giving a heads up to allow more to flood into the country, we are full up, we are not taking care of our most vulnerable, our infrastructure is a disaster, our NHS is in desperate need of money and well paid frontline positions filled. The only people we should be letting in are highly qualified people who are needed and we need to train our own to do any and all jobs in this country eventually, at least the majority of those jobs. The world is a very dangerous place and will only get worse, we need to vet people and we need to require them to have sufficient medical insurance and that goes for all coming, it should be made the law when people book a holiday here they have to purchase medical insurance along with their visa!
