Petition: Amend PIP rules so that mentally disabled adults can get a Blue parking Badge | Welfare, Disability, Politics and People's Right's | Scoop.it
Currently rules on personal independence payments mean that mobility points, which allow people to access a Blue Badge for disabled parking, are allocated on a physical capacity to walk only not mental impairment.

Gina Miller has called on the Government to release 50 secret reports detailing the effects of Brexit on different sectors of the British economy to all MPs. Government could cut Universal Credit waiting time after backlash

Government could cut Universal Credit waiting time after backlash | Welfare, Disability, Politics and People's Right's | Scoop.it
The Government is believed to be on the verge of a U-turn over Universal Credit following public pressure and a threatened backbench rebellion. Ministers are understood to be preparing to announce the waiting time for the first payment of the new benefit will be reduced from six weeks after thousands of vulnerable people were left destitute and in some cases having to rely on food banks.
britishroses's insight:
When someone is living paycheck to paycheck they don't have a penny to put aside for a rainy day, never mind enough to cover a month or two of bills and food, so not paying them their UC for 1 week is more than long enough and there's NO EXCUSE to withhold that initial payment for any longer than that week. If you push forward with this disastrous roll-out it will be at your own peril and you may as well hand the keys to No. 10 over the Jeremy Corbyn now!

Ten years after the death of Fiona Pilkington, have the police got better at tackling hate crime?

Ten years after the death of Fiona Pilkington, have the police got better at tackling hate crime? | Welfare, Disability, Politics and People's Right's | Scoop.it
Everyone remembers Fiona as the woman who burnt herself to death. They remember reading about her in the papers or seeing her face on the news: a photo of a brown-haired, middle-aged woman with downcast eyes. No one knew her personally. Fiona spent much of her life isolated and alone. Ten years on, residents in the Leicestershire village where she lived and worked still seem disconnected to her death. Locals living just a few metres from the lay-by where Fiona eventually set her own car ablaze struggle to recall the details. “We saw nothing,” one elderly resident says.
