Jessica Trcka's insight:

Allowing students to relate this to the standard of goal setting is important. Students should be able to create goals for the future. In health, there is an end of course assessment that students must pass. Students should set goals and be able to plan effectively to create a guide of how they will study for the upcoming exam. Learning of goal setting can apply in the students personal and professional life.

This infographic explores the use of social media in schools. We know that teenagers (and tweens) are actively engaged with social media. As educators how can we leverage this use and bring it into our classrooms. We know our students are actively using this technology outside of school...so why do so many schools ban it? This post explores reasons why we should look at this issue.

The infographic is divided into a number of sections.

* If You can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em - Social Networking Stats

* Benefits of Social Media in the Classroom - a look at Student Benefits, Educator Benefits and Parental Benefits

* Examples of Social Media in the Classroom: Looking at Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Blogging

* Social Media Pilot Program: Learn about a program in Portland, Oregon and the difference it made

Resources are also provided at the bottom of the infographic.

Interleaved Practice: Google Calendar

The Google Calendar is a great resource for students to organize their plan of how they will study for the end of course assessment. The students will have the opportunity to organize a daily list of ideas they will review and be able to cover all the content addressed over the entire semester. Students have the opportunity to set in preferences a way for an e-mail or alarm to be set when it is the designated time to review the material.

Jessica Trcka's insight:

This calendar is very effective for students to track and plan their study plans for the end of course assessment. Students are very familiar with technology, so this is a great resource for the students to use!

Student Collaboration: Deep Learning

Student Collaboration: Deep Learning | Welcome to Your Health Study Space! | Scoop.it

Learning to collaborate is an important high school skill. For students to succeed in today's workforce, they need to learn to work together seamlessly -- across town and across time zones. Sharing ideas, offering comments, building upon each other's work -- these are hallmarks of today's successful businesses.

Collaboration is one of the principles of Deeper Learning -- others are to think critically, communicate effectively and 'learn to learn' through a mastery of rigorous academic content. We feel this emphasis on Deeper Learning enables our students to utilize their high school years so that they are ready for college and graduate with job-worthy skills. Deeper Learning also provides the skills necessary to engage in online education and courses as well as working successfully face-to-face in traditional classrooms. This emphasis on 'learning to learn' in deep ways may be new to students and their parents. However, by focusing on both academics and skills, we are truly preparing young men and women for the choices they face after high school.

Jessica Trcka's insight:

It is important for students to work together in the classroom to be successful. Students can learn from one another which is very important to aid to the learning process. I believe students will gain more when they are able to apply skills that are unique to them to the entire group. This is a very important concept to apply in the classroom. Students should read this article and then reread to make sure they fully understand the importance of working collaboratively.

This is a great tool for students to review their assignments and use them as a study tool for an upcoming assessment.

Jessica Trcka's insight:

Showbie is a great study tool because it allows students to receive feedback from the teacher on assignments. Then, they have the opportunity to save those resources to continue to revisit the material to help make healthier choices in their life.
