Roland Emmerich schickt in Gestalt von Channing Tatum wieder einmal einen Präsidentenretter in die Schlacht um amerikanische Werte. Jennifer Aniston gründet zwecks Publikumserheiterung eine durchgeknallte Fake-Familie, die dann doch irgendwie zu einer echten wird. Und Scarlett Johansson streift als geheimnisvoller männerverführender Alien durch Schottland.

 

Was vereint diese Erzählungen des Blockbuster-Kinos – und alle ihre Vorgänger? Warum sind sie sich so ähnlich und greifen immer wieder auf dieselben Erzählmuster zurück? Gut gegen Böse, boy meets girl, Sohn kann’s Vater nicht rechtmachen ... Sind die Drehbuchschreiber zu einfallslos?

 

Gad Saad, Professor für evolutionäre Verhaltenswissenschaften an der Concordia University im kanadischen Montreal, hat dazu eine andere Theorie, die er jüngst im Journal of Consumer Psychology vorstellte. Danach greifen Filme, Romane und alle anderen kulturellen Erzählformen auf ein universelles Set von narrativen Versatzstücken zurück. All diese Plots kreisen um vier evolutionäre Motive, die das Streben und Handeln der Menschen seit ihrer Zeit als Jäger und Sammler bestimmen: Überleben, Reproduktion, Brutpflege und „reziproker Altruismus“. Für Saad sind das die Themen, die uns Menschen in unserem Innersten bewegen. Erzählungen, die diese Motive aufgreifen, wecken unser Interesse. Sie seien „ein direktes Fenster zu unserer biologisch verankerten menschlichen Natur“...

After starting with a brief history of storytelling this post provides great resources as it explores digital storytelling in primary and secondary education, for higher education, for business and creative professionals, and storytelling for a new generation.

In the section for primary and secondary education you will find links to great resources at the University of Houston which has a site dedicated to "educational uses of digital storytelling" as well as a site from the National Writing Project that provides many resources. 

A number of resources are also available in the section on higher education as well as as the section for business and creative professionals, which also suggests several Web 2.0 tools you might use to tell your story.

Coaching top, Storytelling on the hop

Wie werden Führungskräfte und Mitarbeiter im deutschsprachigen Raum weitergebildet? Zum dritten Mal hat managerSeminare einen Blick in die Methodenkoffer der Trainer und Berater geworfen. Die zentralen Ergebnisse: Coaching ist die meistgenutzte Methode, Storytelling gewinnt weiter an Bedeutung.

 

Coaching ist die beliebteste Weiterbildungsweise im deutschsprachigen Raum. Jeder dritte Trainer und Berater setzt die Methode bei seiner Arbeit 'immer' ein, 'häufig' wenden sie 42 Prozent an, 15 Prozent immerhin ab und zu. Das ist ein zentrales Ergebnis der managerSeminare-Umfrage 'Trainingsmethoden 2012', an der sich 187 Weiterbildner beteiligt haben. Bei der vorausgegangenen Erhebung im Jahr 2010 führte das Format ebenfalls das Methoden-Ranking an, bei der ersten Auflage der Studie 2008 rangierte Coaching noch auf dem fünften Rang.

 

Offenbar entwickelt sich Coaching zu einer Art Megatrend der Weiterbildung: Kaum ein Trainer, der nicht auch Coaching anwendet. Die Erfolgsgeschichte des Formats dürfte zum einen darin gründen ...

I love the idea of story-doers! This is major theme from our CFOs, the ability to "tell the stories" with their numbersand playing a major role helping the businesses transform themsleves in accordance with the stories.

Great piece on StoryTelling on HBR blog. Author of the new book 'True Story' argues that telling just a story is not enough. Storydoing companies "advance their narrative through action, not communication." How to recognise a StoryDoing company?

 

* They have a story
* The story is about a larger ambition to make the world or people's lives better
* The story is understood and cared about by senior leadership outside of marketing
* That story is being used to drive tangible action throughout the company: product development, HR policies, compensation, etc.
* These actions add back up to a cohesive whole
* Customers and partners are motivated to engage with the story and are actively using it to advance their own stories
