Cherchez l'erreur ! | Weirdos things impacting the world :) | Scoop.it

A few weeks ago, world leaders gathered in Davos, Switzerland to map a path forward for accelerating the flow of capital into impact investing, a discussion which was facilitated in partnership between the World Economic Forum and member firms of Deloitte TTL*.

A group of approximately 50 participants – including multibillion dollar hedge funds, private equity firms, sovereign wealth funds, asset managers, financial services companies, foundations, and social enterprises – spent over two hours brainstorming and debating on how to accelerate – and “mainstream” – the flow of capital towards impact investing. To learn more about the insights from that event, read this blog post written by Chris Harvey, Deloitte’s Global Leader for the Financial Services Industry and Global Lead for Major Financial Institutions.

30% of people end up working in the careers they dreamed of as kids

30% of people end up working in the careers they dreamed of as kids | Weirdos things impacting the world :) | Scoop.it

The career aspirations of boys and girls around the globe follow some clear patterns, regardless of whether they live in Singapore or Sweden, Australia, or the United Arab Emirates.

Boys grow up dreaming of becoming a scientist or an airline pilot or the next Kobe Bryant, simultaneously winning basketball games, acclaim and mega-bucks. Girls’ dream jobs tend to be a veterinarian, teacher, or writer.

Though that may sound stereotypical, a new survey from LinkedIn shows a clear split in childhood dream jobs. Women were far more likely to say they wanted to be novelist or a singer or some other creative career than men, while the reverse is true of “one-in-a-million” type jobs such as prime minister or astronaut. More than 13% of male professionals around the globe say they pictured themselves as president or prime minister or secret agent  versus 7.9% of women.

Open source boosts entrepreneurship and social good through collaboration | opensource.com | Weirdos things impacting the world :) | Scoop.it

I vividly remember the time when my early opinions about open source software were built around questions that made natural (and perfect) sense to me at that point in my life, like: "Why would someone sell a software product for free?" and "Why should anyone participate in a project that does not reap financial rewards?" These formed the basis of my rationale.

Good post on how to use content to communicate the impact of donors on your nonprofit. It is so important to show how their actions contribute to solutions.

I especially like the solid examples of how a nonprofit can emphasize donor impact.
