Smashing and mashing - isn't that what students are doing all the time now? Keep up with the lingo and get some great ideas from this one.

Sandra Carswell's insight:

Yet another web tool to make it easy to share your presentation. I don't really see students using it but I can see myself using it with a presentation on the ipad. Upload presentation, start broadcasting and then access it with the laptop that is connected to the projector. Must try it soon!

Smartphones: The Silent Killer Of The Web As You Know It

Smartphones: The Silent Killer Of The Web As You Know It | Web Tools in Education | Scoop.it
The PC is dying, long live the PC! These headlines have been thrown around for years, as sales of laptops and desktops have continually dwindled downward.
Sandra Carswell's insight:

Very interesting article explaining the decline of tablet sales and the different ways we access the web. BYOD is the way to go afterall.

Apps in Education: Editing Video on your iPad

Apps in Education: Editing Video on your iPad | Web Tools in Education | Scoop.it

"Making movies on the iPad is one of those activities that I often see in schools. I love to watch how quickly even very young students can produce a professional looking movie. It is a great way for them to illustrate what they have learnt. Normally I would say that editing movies on the iPad is best done using iMovie but it is not exactly cheap, especially if you have a raft of other apps you want your students to have. Here are a couple of apps for editing movies that do not cost the earth. Many of these apps also contain features found on the more expensive apps."

How to use Voice Dictation on Your iPad and iPhone - teachingwithipad.org

How to use Voice Dictation on Your iPad and iPhone - teachingwithipad.org | Web Tools in Education | Scoop.it

"Do you see that microphone button at the bottom left of the iPad screen when the keyboard appears? I always knew about the dictation feature, but I never really used it before a couple weeks ago. I’m actually writing this post by speaking it, all while in the car! The accuracy is quite good, there are rarely any mistakes if you speak clearly.

I’ve been using it recently for a lot of things: text messages, emails, and blogging."

Sandra Carswell's insight:

Now that we are a BYOD school, this handy tip will be beneficial for many of our students. The library may be the best place, quietest..., well, maybe not!

Andy Kenworthy's curator insight, January 6, 2014 5:11 AM

Voice dictation works well if you speak slowly and clearly in short bursts and still quicker than typing. You can even speak the punctuation you require. Accuracy is very good though still good to proof read it just in case before submitting anything.
