A domain name is the website address that allows visitors to find your site. Google.com is a domain name, for instance, as is PBS.org. Making your domain name resemble your site name in an obvious fashion is a smart move to help people remember you.

The catch is that you have certain limits such as it has to be a sub-domain of a web service or your web name has to end in certain letters.  This is great for people who just want a domain name to experiment with the web, make a personal web site, or just create a blog (or site that shows off your knowledge of a topic).    Remeber that a domain name does not include web hosting space.  It is a name you attach to the address of a web space or web site.
