The Next Big Thing in Marketing Technology: the Content Marketing Stack

The Next Big Thing in Marketing Technology: the Content Marketing Stack | Web Presence Optimization | Scoop.it

You know about ad stacks, right? Get ready to say hello to the next big thing in content marketing technology: the content marketing stack. Content stacks aren’t here yet, but they’re coming. In the next couple of years, I expect we’ll see offerings from the big enterprise players: Adobe, Oracle and Salesforce.com.

Via Guillaume Decugis
Tom Pick's insight:

Yes this is coming, but as pointed out in Rebecca's piece, all of the current offerings are disconnected pieces with different UIs and immature focus yet at this point.

Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, May 20, 11:31 AM

The Content Marketing landscape is maturing: still fragmented within many vendors, there's now a consensus from analysts on how to look at the various fields of content marketing. From creation, to curation & aggregation, to optimization, analytics, audience targeting and distribution, workflow, etc... Altimeter's Rebecca Lieb defines layers of what she says will become the future major stack of enterprise software.

Her typology is not very different from the one in this infographic by Scripted: in both cases, content creation and content curation are seen as the core pillars of the ecosystem showing how major content curation has become for content marketers.

Content is king.

Tom Pick's comment, May 21, 5:41 AM
Rebecca's piece is excellent (as usual), but her second diagram has some issues. Among them: content creation is at the bottom - 4 tiers below audience targeting? No, content can't be (effectively) created without an understanding of the audience first.

Book Review: Social PR Secrets | B2B Marketing Blog | Webbiquity | Web Presence Optimization | Scoop.it
A must-read for anyone in PR, this book is also valuable to those who want to better understand the role PR plays in maximizing a brand's online visibility.
Tom Pick's insight:

One of the first things you’ll notice about Social PR Secrets is how compact it is, at less than 100 pages. The book's lack of bulk, however, is by no means due to lightweight content or skimping on ideas.

The decay and fall of guest blogging for SEO

The decay and fall of guest blogging for SEO | Web Presence Optimization | Scoop.it
Okay, I'm calling it: if you're using guest blogging as a way to gain links in 2014, you should probably stop. Why? Because over time it's become a more and more spammy practice, and if you're doin...

Via Guillaume Decugis
Tom Pick's insight:

Guest blogging is not "dead," and Matt didn't say that. What he advised against - as he consistently does - is spammy practices designed solely to build a large number of links. Strategically placing quality posts on relevant and respected blogs still has value - for SEO, wider exposure, and increased web presence. Serve readers and you'll win, regardless. Engage in spammy link-building, and...you'll find out Matt is serious.

Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, January 21, 9:42 AM

The head of the Google Webspam team has spoken: guest blogging is now on the hook and won't be an SEO strategy you can rely on in 2014.

Following the demise of massive link building (which now can have adverse effects), this is another strategy once recommended by traditionnal SEO consultants that disappears as part of Google's strategy to fight spam, cheap SEO tricks and promote great quality content in search results. The more Google Search evolves, the more it relies on new criteria such as social signals to promote quality content.

What this means is there's no way around this simple truth now: to come up in search results, you need to publish good quality content and add value - either through great original content or carefully curated quality pieces. And in the race to publish great content frequently, it's likely you will find the latter very useful.
