The internet is your first impression, a real time documentation of your life, and a powerful indicator of your personality, priorities, integrity, and work ethic. Search Engines will introduce you not as a friend, but as an unbiased third party who sees to reveal the most relevant information about you.

Obviously as a marketing tool, the playing field is leveled; I smirk when I think about my college classes that focused on writing a perfect resume - it was an important skill when millennials were interviewing with baby boomers who were accustomed to judging someone on a 30 minute conversation and on page of concentrated sales copy. Today, there are faster and more accurate ways to synthesize information about candidates. I recently had an infographic created (http://reputationresolutions.com/know-google/) to demonstrate the power than an online reputation can have in a job search. In short, your online reputation is ultimately a culmination of what you reveal to the world. Starting with a strategy to emphasize positive aspects is probably a good decision.
