How to Hire the Freelance Writer of Your Dreams in 6 Easy Steps

How to Hire the Freelance Writer of Your Dreams in 6 Easy Steps | web content creation | Scoop.it
Looking to hire a freelance writer? Here's how to make sure you pick the right candidate.
Melanie Kross's insight:

This article by Hubspot offers lots of great insights on finding a freelance writer. Definitely have them complete a short writing test, but make sure it's not too long. Nobody wants to spend an hour on something they won't get paid for, especially if they don't get hired.

Myself, I usually don't do testing too  much. If you can't tell from my hundreds of published articles that I provide links to on my website, then something is wrong.

Also, remember to give the writer hints and clues as to your style. Tell them as much as you can about what you're looking for in an article...Details! We can't read minds, and writing is subjective. What one person may consider a great article, another may not. Work together with your writer and you will end up with articles you absolutely love!

How to Craft Compelling Calls to Action in Your Content Marketing - Business 2 Community

How to Craft Compelling Calls to Action in Your Content Marketing - Business 2 Community | web content creation | Scoop.it
Melanie Kross's insight:

It is extremely important to include a call to action at the end of every blog post, and an oversight for many. Thank you @Amanda Clark, though, for pointing out the fact that a call to action can be added to a simple status update, or at the end of content that belongs to somebody else as well. Of course this type of content must also be linked to its source...

If you are outsourcing your content, make sure your writer knows to include a call to action. Not just any call to action, the appropriate call depending on where the reader might be in the cycle. Make sure it is not pushy or too promotional. Remember, you are giving free advice, helping consumers and building their trust, while also establishing your authority in your industry.

What are some clever calls to action you have used that have gotten a lot of response? Help us all learn by sharing!

A Content Strategy Should Begin with Target Audience Personas

A Content Strategy Should Begin with Target Audience Personas | web content creation | Scoop.it
When you create buyer personas, this essentially means you’re digging into the buyer habits and patterns of everyone in your audience. Here's how.
Melanie Kross's insight:

I quickly figured out as a content writer that, to be successful with content written for my clients, I had to begin with a plan. I am guilty of diving into content creation in the beginning of my career without a complete understanding of the target audience I was attempting to attract.

It is essential to have a content marketing plan for each client, and it makes life much easier, keeping me organized and on schedule. Plus, clients can see that you have a strategy that you adjust depending on what is working and what is not working (the same strategy I used when planning lessons as a teacher, by the way...).

To build an accurate persona(s) for each client, I research the industry thoroughly, of course, and I spend time getting to know my client and his or her goals. The client knows their target audience well, and can fill in most of the blanks regarding various personas to be targeted. I suggest starting with this.

There are a million resources on the web for creating personas as well. I really found Hubspot's Marketing Persona Series to be exceptional. They provide easy-to-use templates that you merely fill in, and they walk you through the process.

Success with content begins with knowing the target audience well, discovering their needs, and addressing those needs with valuable content that provides solutions.

How To Do Content Marketing Right

How To Do Content Marketing Right | web content creation | Scoop.it
Marketers need to start taking publishing seriously. It’s not a gimmick, but a craft and one that takes work to master.
Melanie Kross's insight:

What a great article that points out the immense amount of knowledge content writers and content marketers must learn and know well. Most important, though, is the fact that content must not be promotional.

Content needs to show your expertise in your industry, answer questions the target audience would be asking and offer them value. People will not respond to a long advertisement anymore

Realize it, face it, traditional marketing is history. Today, your content writer needs to be aware of the goal of content marketing and writing, It's purpose is to build trust, connect, provide solutions, offer genuine value and help consumers.

There are plenty of negative people out there, consumers will devote their loyalty to your website if you're kind, genuine, and offer your help to them.
