Saving information on a computer boosts human memory resources for new information

The simple act of saving something, such as a file on a computer, may improve our memory for the information we encounter next, according to new research published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. The research suggests that the act of saving helps to free up cognitive resources that can be used to remember new information.

AI is different because it lets machines weld the emotional with the physical

AI is different because it lets machines weld the emotional with the physical | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

The human race has long designed and used tools to help us solve problems, from flint axes to space shuttles. They affect our lives and shape society in expected and sometimes unexpected ways. We may understand how these tools work – after all, we built them – but sometimes it’s the use they’re put to that surprises.

Forget AI, Technology Is Powering Our Own Intelligence | WIRED | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

If you’ve been out of school for a long time you may only remember the good parts — growing up with your friends, school events, and those few inspirational teachers who pushed you to excel. The bad parts of school are just as memorable; fights, changing relationships, and failures. But the day-to-day lecture, note-taking and test-taking is still commonplace in many classrooms and easily forgotten since it doesn’t engage the learning imagination.

The Future Arrives in 2045

The Future Arrives in 2045 | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

One expert predicts—or should we say, warns—that artificial intelligence will be fully operational in just 30 years. For years, the development of full artificial intelligence has been the brass ring of computer science. So many of our machines already “think” for themselves in terms of repetitive duties based on human programming, of course. But when the day comes when computers can actually interpret our emotions, or get the punch line about the chicken and the road without our help, we’ll know the future has truly arrived.

Artificial Intelligence, Really, Is Pseudo-Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence, Really, Is Pseudo-Intelligence | Web 3.0 | Scoop.it

Commentator Alva Noë argues that we don't need to be alarmed that our machines are rapidly outstripping natural-born human cognitive power: We've got a millions-of-years head start.

Alva Noé, 21/11/2014

Pierre Tran's insight:
