Blended Learning Model Definitions | Christensen Institute

Blended Learning Model Definitions | Christensen Institute | Web 3.0 and Trends | Scoop.it

The definition of blended learning is a formal education program in which a student learns:

(1) at least in part through online learning, with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace;

(2) at least in part in a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home;

(3) and the modalities along each student’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience.

The focus of these scoop.it pages is networked learning. As the above definition points out, online learning is part and parcel of blended learning experiences. In some cases, the online part is of a social nature, thereby qualifying it as a form of networked learning. Apart from that, next to MOOCs blended learning is another attempt at marrying the online and the offline in learning. Although the terminology used is different, although the intentions are different (for sure if it concerns xMOOCs), there are a lot of similarities worth drawing attention to. This is particularly so since the various forms of blended learning discussed in this short scoop offer useful food for thought for those interested in furthering the evolution of MOOCs. I am thinking in particular of the à-la-carte model and the enriched-virtual model. Also, the classification is unlikely to be exhaustive and therefore provides food for the imaginative thinker.

All the Startup Advice You Read is Wrong

There are two big problems with reading about what made other companies successful: 1. Correlation is not Causation 2. Everything depends

But as Ev explains in this brilliant post on medium, "you should read some anyway". For ideas and inspiration. Couldn't agree more. He even goes as far as criticizing the "hire only A players" rule which has always been pissing me off to the point where I feel it became the "I want a world in peace" of the Valley. Of course you want a world in peace and only A players. But what if you can't?

Inventing the future of publishing through human curated big data | Scoop.it Blog

This is a talk that our Co-Founder & CEO Guillaume Decugis gave at DataWeek on October 2nd, 2013 as we launched the v4 of Scoop.it.

Semantic technology has been around for years and was supposed to save us from information overload. So far, it failed. The Semantic Web or Web 3.0 is still Tim Berners-Lee's dream, and good old Web 2.0 keeps drowning us in oceans of content. But while social media is certainly the cause of this deluge of information, it can also be the solution: first, as it provides us with a huge amount of data that we can use to qualify this information through big data technology; second, because it educated and created a need for millions to become human curators. By combining algorithms and humans, we reinvent media while bringing the meaning back to the Web.
