How To: Use Wikipedia in the Classroom Responsibly

How To: Use Wikipedia in the Classroom Responsibly | Web 2.0 Tools in the EFL Classroom | Scoop.it

The problem is that Wikipedia in the classroom has gotten a bad reputation in the K-12 world, undeservedly so I think. I would suggest that Wikipedia can be used for a multitude of educational purposes at a wide variety of grade levels. Too many teachers are still afraid to use it in class, so I’m here to right that wrong and show our educators how they can responsibly integrate Wikipedia into their lessons.

Be sure to check out Wikipedia’s own resources for teachers as well. They have an awesome 12-week syllabus showing you exactly how you can integrate Wikipedia into your classroom. They also have training designed especially for educators."

Ness Crouch's curator insight, May 25, 2013 6:12 PM

Giving these types of skills to students can help them with their understanding of writing and also help teachers with avoiding the copy and paste syndrome in tasks.

I think if departments reviewed their faculty, it would become clear to them which teachers should *not* be forced into using technology in the classroom.  Questionably, if those teachers cannot teach the assigned material any longer, they may be driven to learn it in order to keep their jobs, but honestly, if teachers don't possess these traits in today's world, the only thing they should probably be driven to is a different job....

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy | Web 2.0 Tools in the EFL Classroom | Scoop.it

Med Kharback:

I just got this poster from a fellow teacher featuring the 6 thinking skills as outlined in the revised taxonomy. As you probably know, Blooms taxonomy that was first created in the 1950s has been revised by Krathwohl and there are two  main changes that appeared in this revised taxonomy: the first one is semantic in that nouns are now being replaced with verbs; and the second change relates to the order of these thinking skills. In the old taxonomy, Bloom highlighted the importance of evaluating and therefore placed it at the top of the  thinking continuum, but for Krathwohl Creating is the highest order thinking skill.
