Snappy Words is a free visual English dictionary and thesaurus that lets you search the meaning of words and other associated words.
This tool is a bit like a mindmap using words and associated words or synonyms to create relationships between them. It's still in Beta and a lot of words don't show up but it could be useful in any case.
"Below are some good videos I got a few days ago on examples of how some augmented reality apps are being used with kids to help them improve their learning. If the concept of augmented reality if all new to you then here is a brief definition of it: Augmented Reality is exactly what the name implies: an augmented version of realty created by mixing technology with the known world. It might be a distorted, augmented, or less augmented version of the actual world but in its basic form, augmented reality is a simulation or rather a way of superimposing digital contents into the real context."
instaGrok is a visual search engine and interactive learning tool collects educational content and displays it in the form of a web of related words. The tool is very appealing because it offers a variety of multimedia features to meet the unique learning needs of students. In addition to the visual map, content is displayed in the form of text, images, video and web links. Better yet, students can use the handy slider tool to self select the level of difficulty of the results displayed which provides them with access usable information.
I have just had a look at this and think it could be a great tool for project work. Students type in any topic and the tool generates a 'GROK' which is a type of mind-map with all related topics. You can then simplify and personalize your Grok by adding pins, eliminating unwanted info, creating personal notes, etc... Edmodo allows you to launch the App directly from your Edmodo site too which is convenient. It looks a bit confusing at first but I think it's worth a look!
If THIS, then THAT. This is a nifty little app that puts two apps together and works them in your favor. You can, for example, get your 'to do' list sent to Evernote, have the weather sent to you in an SMS, wish all your friends an automatic birthday wish on FB, etc... It's a question of putting together 2 apps that you are already using and letting the app IFTTT work for you depending on your needs!
I have often used this site for finding tools for my classes. There are some good links and they are quite well categorized in order to find tools for specific tasks. I don't like the esthetics of the page but the info is worth a look.

MixBit is brought to you by Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, the co-founders of YouTube. We created YouTube to give you a way to share videos, and now we want to help you create videos, together.

This is something to reflect about. I would add that the left column does not represent for me 'wrong answers'. I do want my students to create and use many of the tools mentioned! I also want them to RAISE AWARENESS, START CONVERSATIONS, MAKE A DIFFERENCE, TAKE ACTION, JOIN PARTNERS, ETC!! Can we do both at the same time?
This tool can help students organize their ideas when writing papers and/or doing research. It allows them to highlight important information, drag information around and add their own comments and notes once they've read something. I haven't tried it but think it could be a really useful tool for students who have to do research and write a lot of papers or essays. Another bonus is that it adds the bibliography which always seems to be one of the complicated issues!
A good lesson if you want to connect with your students at the beginning of this bright and new school year to find out what THEY think makes a good teacher! Could start the year off on the right foot and make for some interesting conversation

It's nice to see that there are places that have really taken on board the idea of BYOD in their classroom and in their entire school. Here in Catalonia it is generally still 'punishable' being caught with mobiles or devices into the classroom. I am waiting for the day when this mentality changes. I truly believe that the way to engage our students is by allowing them to interact with these devices in a way which would actually teach them to LEARN new things in and out of the classroom and enable them to see beyond using them simply for Facebook or Watsapp! It would be nice to hear what the policies are from other European countries. I'm curious to know if this is a general practise here in Catalonia, in most of Spain, in Europe? etc... In my opinion, we have a long way to go...
