Challenging the Model of 1:1 with BYOD

Challenging the Model of 1:1 with BYOD | Web 2.0 Tools in the EFL Classroom | Scoop.it

Our aim for using mixed devices was to challenge teachers and students to really integrate technology into their instruction and learning. By having multiple devices available, users are challenged to determine which device best suits their learning purpose, and teachers are also challenged to rethink how they are using technology.

X-Ray Goggles | Web 2.0 Tools in the EFL Classroom | Scoop.it

A great site to cannibalise, customize and remix existing webpages as well as learning how to write HTML. Super also for student to create "fake" pages and announcements with incredible realism. Lots of potential for project based work, advertising (eg App design), PSHE issues etc Nice example here: http://dhcooper.makes.org/goggles/dhcoopers-remix-of-bbc-news-us-police-arrest-silk-road-20-suspect-in-seattle

Team Shake and Other Ways to Group Partners- Engage Their Minds

Team Shake and Other Ways to Group Partners- Engage Their Minds | Web 2.0 Tools in the EFL Classroom | Scoop.it
I have been using Class Dojo to randomly make teams or select partners, but it isn’t exactly the fastest way to do it.  Last week, I heard about an app called, “Team Shake,” which is so much faster!  It does cost .99, so I just downloaded it to my phone rather than a school iPad.  Once I input the names of the students for a class (or a club), all I have to do is choose the number of groups I want and shake to sort everyone immediately.  Since I have multiple classes and clubs, I am able to save each one separately and load them whenever I need them.

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison | Web 2.0 Tools in the EFL Classroom | Scoop.it

A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations.

Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools:

1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it.

2. Client-based: Download and install software on a computing device to record and save.
