This fall there will be teachers trying the flipped classroom approach to lessons for the first time. In the right setting the flipped classroom model can work well. My favorite tools for creating flipped lessons include the option to insert questions for students to answer while watching the video instead of waiting until the end to answer a series of questions.
Enjoyed reading this and we all need to reflect. Why do we send our children to school? What do we really want them to learn? What role should technology have? Can technology work without the teacher? Of course not! We need to integrate technology and get both teachers and students engaged and motivated to learn once again. We need a new way of teaching and learning. And yes, if used wisely, technology can be of great use!
Follow @theteachgeek Whenever you speak to teachers about integrating technology into learning experiences, the first question is usually, "Which apps should we be using".

Starting this summer, classrooms hooked on MinecraftEDU will be given the option of migrating to a new education-focused Minecraft title, recently announced by Microsoft who has acquired the rights to MinecraftEDU.
Minecrafters...beware or be aware...that your favorite platform has be bought by Microsoft. You will still be subscribed and will also get a free year (is my understanding) of use on the new iteration.
Watch YouTube videos without comments, ads, related videos, or any other distractions. It's great for teachers, parents, and organizations alike - or really, anybody.
If you don't want to run the risk of finding something on youtube that you weren't expecting, this nifty little tool can help. It takes away the sidebar on the right, as well as other ads or other related videos you don't care to see. Handy!
Classroom turns your iPad into a powerful teaching assistant, helping a teacher guide students through a lesson, see their progress, and keep them on track. With Classroom, you can easily launch the same app on every student device at the same time or launch a different app for each group of students. Classroom helps teachers focus on teaching so students can focus on learning.
Zoobe is a free 3D animated message app for iOS and Android. Pick a character, add your own voice and pictures as background and you will get a video that will amaze your friends in seconds. You can choose among Paddington, Om Nom by Cut the Rope, The Smurfs, Street Fighter, Maya the Bee, Willy, Vicky the Viking and many more. Great for birthdays, greetings, surprises or to use in your mobile messaging apps and chat conversations.
Kids love this app. They get to choose their own well-known character and add 30 seconds of their own voice recording. An excellent tool to create short greetings or sayings in a foreign language as students can hide within the character and yet still practise oral pronunciation and intonation at the same time. And it's fun...
