My Fake Wall

My Fake Wall | Web 2.0 Tools for the Middle Grades Classroom | Scoop.it

My Fake Wall is a web app where students can create a facsimile of a Facebook page for a fictitious or historical character. Students can upload images, write wall posts, even create "likes" and comments on fake posts. This is a terrific tool for showing student synthesis of the actions and motivations of fictional characters and historical figures.

Free Technology for Teachers: Make Interactive Images on ThingLink Education

Free Technology for Teachers: Make Interactive Images on ThingLink Education | Web 2.0 Tools for the Middle Grades Classroom | Scoop.it

Richard Byrne shares a short tutorial on using ThingLink to create interactive images. ThingLink is now offering educators and students free accounts (create up to 50 images for free) or a paid plan with 500 images at a discounted price. How might you use ThingLink. He suggests that it "could be used by art students to identify and tag important elements of a picture, drawing, or photography...could also be used in history classes to have students identify important places in a battlefield like Gettysburg." What ideas do you have for using this tool?

BigHugeLabs

BigHugeLabs | Web 2.0 Tools for the Middle Grades Classroom | Scoop.it

Visit BigHugeLabs and you will find plenty of fun stuff to do with your digital photos. The site contains over 30 projects such as creating and printing personalized motivational posters, calendars, movie posters, magazine covers, badges, mosaics, collages, and a lot more! Each project takes a few minutes and the results are excellent.  About half of the projects work without creating an account.  Most of the projects are easy to use for educational purposes.  For example you might have your students create movie posters based on literature they read in school.  Another simple project might be creating animal ID badges listing each animal's characteristics. About half of the projects can be downloaded without creating an account.  There is also an educator account that includes: (1)registering students without email, (2)reviewing student work and (3) ad-free access.  Overall BigHugeLabs is a great way to combine fun and education.
