Different technologies have certain affordances that can do wonders to transforming the classroom, or in this case "flipping" the classroom, but teachers are best served when they understand how to complement their traditional teacher model and taking advantage of the tools available to their student audience.

5 Free Tools For Making Digital Portfolios | Web 2.0 Tools | Scoop.it
Students create a truly outstanding amount of work over the course of a year. Back when everything was done on paper, most of that work was either thrown in the trash, stuffed in a drawer somewhere, or stuck in a box in the garage.
Vicki Mast's insight:

Your school may offer a portfolio option within the network, LMS, etc. If not, here are some good resources. Each has limitations and free accounts usually will not allow video uploads and greatly limit file size so research carefully before committing to a product.

3 Screencasting Resources for the Flipped Teacher @ClassTechTips

3 Screencasting Resources for the Flipped Teacher @ClassTechTips | Web 2.0 Tools | Scoop.it
Teachers looking to flip their classrooms can explore a variety of tools. Screencasting is the process of recording what you are doing on your tablet or computer. It’s like taking a screenshot but includes audio and video recording too. In the flipped classroom screencasts can be used to create the video clips you ask students to watch before class to prepare for a lesson.

There are a handful of great screencasting resources that can help you create videos for your flipped classroom. Each one has unique features and I encourage you to try a few before deciding on the one you’ll stick with this school year.

One of the many things that we tried today in my Future Schools workshop was creating whiteboard instructional videos. Someone in the group suggested using those videos as layers in Aurasma that would trigger when students scanned a geometric shape. Even if you don't use Aurasma to showcase your videos, whiteboard videos can be helpful in helping students understand a process or concept. Here is a handful of tools for making whiteboard videos.

Data is crucial. However, displaying a chunk of plain data can be monotonous. Infographics visualize plain data and make it visually more appealing. Data turned into infographic has a higher potential to go viral and be effective. While many of us are designers who can design amazing infographs, Infographic Generators can come in handy to Designers and non-designers alike. They can be a time saving resource. So here is a list of 17 fantastic Infographic Generators I compiled together:...

50+ Tools for Differentiating Instruction Through Social Media | John McCarthy Blog | Edutopia.org | Web 2.0 Tools | Scoop.it

Imagine a world where resources were limited to what was found in the classroom or the school closet known as the "Curriculum Materials Room." Picture a world where students wrote letters with pen and paper to communicate with other students and adults outside of the building. Due to postage costs, the teacher either sent the letters in bulk or paid for stamps out of his or her own pocket. Can you recall a time when student interests like skateboarding or video were never used as part of learning curriculum because the tools needed were either too expensive or not yet conceptualized? Do you remember a time when non-traditional learners struggled, and absenteeism meant a high likelihood of students doing poorly in school, and possibly having to retake the course?

If you experienced none of these scenarios, then you live in a world of possibility because you grew up with the many social media tools available to support all learners. If any of these scenarios bring back memories as a teacher or student, then you understand that we have many more tools today to ensure that learners succeed despite struggles, because students and teachers have so much more available to meet every learner's needs.

For educators differentiating instruction, social media tools embrace collaboration and global access to people and other resources. We give students a variety of learning experiences that incorporate the capability to:
