25 iOS Secret Features You Likely Didn’t Know About | Redmond Pie

25 iOS Secret Features You Likely Didn’t Know About | Redmond Pie | Web 2.0 for Education | Scoop.it
While it’s true that iOS started out as a relatively basic operating system for the iPhone and iPod touch, the software and its list of features have grown and matured over the years. Nowadays iOS is feature rich, so much so that we’re willing to bet that there are quite a few things hidden within iOS that lots of people don’t know even exist.

With that in mind we set about putting together a list of features and tools within iOS that we didn’t think everyone would know existed. Initially, we kicked the idea off with a handful of items for our list, but eventually it grew into a list of no fewer than 25 tips and features that we hope will surprise at least some of you, ranging from hidden Siri commands to special Emoji.

"I enjoy discussing iPad and other edtech resources with my colleague and friend Sylvia Duckworth almost every week through Twitter. Sylvia is a leader in the French teaching community in Canada, and has created an enormous amount of resources for language teachers to use. I asked her if she wanted to collaborate on this post, and she quickly agreed to do so. Below is a list of iPad apps that we both use in our language classrooms. The ones marked with an * are the essential, must-have ones. We have divided the list into two categories: Content consumption apps and content creation apps."

We know that students are now seeing videos as components of online testing. Most students know strategies to use when reading text, but what works best with videos? This post provides 40 comprehension strategies that you may want to teach in your classroom.

The post begins with a short exploration of text and videos and then explores the interaction between video and text. The comprehension strategies are divided into four sections (information below quoted from the text):

* Before viewing comprehension strategies that promote understanding of video and streaming content.

* During viewing comprehension strategies that promote understanding of video and streaming content.

* After viewing comprehension strategies that promote understanding of video and streaming content.

Each of these sections has ten questions that provide anchor strategies. For example, the first section (before viewing) includes Anchor Strategies: Viewing Purpose, Preview, Predict, Connect

Free Technology for Teachers: Six Styles of Classroom Video Projects - A Handout

Free Technology for Teachers: Six Styles of Classroom Video Projects - A Handout | Web 2.0 for Education | Scoop.it
he process of creating and publishing videos can be a great way to get students excited about researching, storytelling, and sharing their work with an audience. For teachers who have never facilitated video creation projects in their classrooms, choosing the right style of video and the right tools can be a bit confusing at first. To help bring clarity to the styles and tools, I have a rather simple outline that I use in my video creation workshops.

We really should ask whether the current education system addresses the needs of the future, even the present. Is this education model proven, and thus ideal? or Should we revisit what we do? how we do it? What we teach? Who we teach it to? and even When we teach it?

I am a believer in innovation, and I feel education and training have not kept up with the times. A deep revolution is necessary, but who is ready to do it??
