What tools are there to help students PRODUCE writing online? Lauren Davis identifies five areas that for producing writing:

* Collaborative tools

* Grammar and language resources

* Fun prompts to get their juices flowing

* Brainstorming and drafting graphic organizers.

* Research tools

What tools are there to help students PUBLISH writing online?
* Magazines

* Online contests

* Class e-newsletter or newspaper

* Book review website

* Class blog or website

There are links to many resources thoughout this post and in many cases specific suggestions are provided for grade levels. If you are not using online tools with your students this post provides great resources to help you begin the process.

The site gives you a word and you write for 60 seconds using that word. You submit your writing and then you can read what others wrote using that word. I did not have to make an account. I did have to put in a screen name and an email address. The email address was not shown to others.

It does make it more fun and easier to understand. I tried their Romeo and Juliet and as you are reading the parts, the soundtrack matches what you are reading, so when they are in the crowded marketplace you hear background noise of people talking.
