Tech companies and social networks need an ethics body to rebuild trust

Tech companies and social networks need an ethics body to rebuild trust | Web 2.0 et société | Scoop.it
Ethics is the issue at the heart of all these technology stories. Or rather a lack of it, and a lack of leadership in ethics. The internet is certainly capable of enormous economic and social good; it is a platform for networking and communicating on an unprecedented scale. But it is just that scale, and facilitating that communication, that presents challenges the world has never had before. The challenge is, uncommonly, a practical, philosophical one for a modern age.
BeerBergman's insight:

"We need a technology philosopher in chief for our age, before the technology runs away with itself."

L’Europe toujours en tête d’un classement, mais lequel ? - Rue89

L’Europe toujours en tête d’un classement, mais lequel ? - Rue89 | Web 2.0 et société | Scoop.it

Public-Commons Partnership - P2P Foundation

Public-Commons Partnership - P2P Foundation | Web 2.0 et société | Scoop.it
BeerBergman's insight:

Texte fondateur sur les partenariats Publics-Communs. A lire! Extrait.

***

"The field of Commons can be for the most part identified with a public but not-state arena, in which the actions of the individuals who collectively take care of, produce and share the Commons are decisive and fundamental.

In this sense, Commons and commoning can become a means for transforming public sector and public services (often bureaucracy-bound and used to pursue the private interests of lobby groups): a means for their commonification (or commonalization). Indeed, there are many possible virtuous crossovers between the traditional public realm and the realm of Commons.

***

Commonification goes beyond the simple de-privatization of the public realm: Commonification basically consists of its democratization, bringing back elements of direct self-government and self-managing, by the residents themselves, of goods and services of general interest (or participatory management within revitalized public bodies). Commonification is a process in which the inhabitants of a territory regain capability and power to make decisions, to orientate choices, rules and priorities, reappropriating themselves of the very possibility of governing and managing goods and services in a participatory manner... Special Collection - Benjamin Shaykin / graphic design

Special Collection - Benjamin Shaykin / graphic design | Web 2.0 et société | Scoop.it
By reinvesting these digital books with physical form, Special Collection asks us to consider the contradictions and unintended consequences of technological advance. Approaching Google Books through its fissures offers a chance to peek behind the curtain of a mysterious, complicated endeavor, which is little understood and generally taken for granted as progress. By using Google’s scans and resources to create this work, I am both highlighting the potential of this new era of distribution and access, and questioning Google’s claims of ownership of all the world’s information.
BeerBergman's insight:

Interesting project at the crossing of real and digital books. A bit like the "socialbook" I had made of my Facebook posts in 2013: moving, weird, unintended beauty.
