BeerBergman's insight:

Following a post on Facebook by Antonio Casilli, I discovered the Google hands and this beautiful article. Not sure if I do agree with all the statements, but worth while reading.

Book : Insect Media. An Archaeology of Animals and Technology by Jussi Parikka

Book : Insect Media. An Archaeology of Animals and Technology by Jussi Parikka | Web 2.0 et société | Scoop.it

Insect Media analyzes how insect forms of social organization—swarms, hives, webs, and distributed intelligence—have been used to structure modern media technologies and the network society. Through close engagement with the pioneering work of insect ethologists, posthumanist philosophers, media theorists, and contemporary filmmakers and artists, Jussi Parikka provides a radical new perspective on the interconnection of biology and technology.

With Insect Media, Jussi Parikka offers a theory of media that challenges our traditional views of the natural and the artificial. Parikka not only understands insects through the lens of media and mediation, he also unearths an insect logic at the heart of our contemporary fascination with networks, swarming, and intelligent agents. Such a project requires the ability to interweave cultural theory with a deep understanding of the sciences—something for which Parikka is well-suited. Most importantly, Insect Media reminds us of the non-human aspect of media, communication, intelligence. Insect Media is a book that is sure to create a buzz.

Special Collection - Benjamin Shaykin / graphic design

Special Collection - Benjamin Shaykin / graphic design | Web 2.0 et société | Scoop.it
By reinvesting these digital books with physical form, Special Collection asks us to consider the contradictions and unintended consequences of technological advance. Approaching Google Books through its fissures offers a chance to peek behind the curtain of a mysterious, complicated endeavor, which is little understood and generally taken for granted as progress. By using Google’s scans and resources to create this work, I am both highlighting the potential of this new era of distribution and access, and questioning Google’s claims of ownership of all the world’s information.
BeerBergman's insight:

Interesting project at the crossing of real and digital books. A bit like the "socialbook" I had made of my Facebook posts in 2013: moving, weird, unintended beauty.
