One of my new favorites that I added this summer is called Maker Lab…28 Super Cool Projects from DK and the Smithsonian, with a foreword by Jack Andraka.

Maker Rubric PDF | BLUEPRINT

Maker Rubric PDF | BLUEPRINT | TechMom | Scoop.it
The Maker Rubric is a simple way to assess the progress and growth of a student maker. This rubric was specifically developed to measure any maker project they complete, whether its 3D printing, claymation, soldering, sewing, puppetry… whatever. It is also a way to, if necessary (dependent on how your school system values grades) assign a numerical percentage to a maker project.

I'd prefer to see a one column rubric to keep the making more 'open' while still providing scaffolding. I'll work on this!

instaGrok | A new way to learn

instaGrok | A new way to learn | TechMom | Scoop.it

instaGrok is a visual search engine and interactive learning tool collects educational content and displays it in the form of a web of related words. The tool is very appealing because it offers a variety of multimedia features to meet the unique learning needs of students. In addition to the visual map, content is displayed in the form of text, images, video and web links. Better yet, students can use the handy slider tool to self select the level of difficulty of the results displayed  which provides them with access usable information.

Susan's curator insight, October 11, 2013 3:36 AM

I have just had a look at this and think it could be a great tool for project work.  Students type in any topic and the tool generates a 'GROK' which is a type of mind-map with all related topics.  You can then simplify and personalize your Grok by adding pins, eliminating unwanted info, creating personal notes, etc... Edmodo allows you to launch the App directly from your Edmodo site too which is convenient.  It looks a bit confusing at first but I think it's worth a look!

Some Very Good Apps to Document Students Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Some Very Good Apps to Document Students Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | TechMom | Scoop.it
Here is a list of some good iPad apps I have compiled over the last weekend. This list is specifically curated to include apps that will enable students to exhibit their learning in  multimodal ways. Students can use them to create tutorials, explanatory guides, record videos, or for digital storytelling purposes. Most of these apps have been featured in previous lists and in different contexts here in EdTech and Mlearning and the common thing among all of them is that they are student-friendly and are very simple to use.
