Google Glass wearers getting used to curious stares

Google Glass wearers getting used to curious stares | Wearable Tech | Scoop.it
Roger Jones was nursing an Anchor Steam in a low-lit corner of the Stanford Court Hotel's lobby bar when the hum of the escalating Friday night crowd caught his attention. Fifty or so fans of Google's exclusive face computer were meeting for a prime-time drink at the Nob Hill hotel, which in a bid to win over San Francisco's tech masses recently offered free booze to Glass wearers. In a city that, of late, has not been particularly enthusiastic about the wearable computers, the Society of Glass Explorers is savvy enough to know not to turn down a free drink. "The whole Sarah Slocum incident drew a lot of negative press and misunderstanding of what Glass is really all about," said society member Fred Davis, referring to the woman who has become an unlikely face of the device after alleging she was harassed and attacked for wearing Glass in a Lower Haight bar. The event's organizer, Libby Chang, said she uses Glass mainly for e-mail and texting - so that she can enjoy a drink with friends and at the same time check her messages without having to be the girl glued to her phone all night. Chang talks a lot with her head, and the motion causes her Glass to inadvertently turn on every now and again during conversation, the screen in front of her pupil momentarily flickering. [...] he said, that night he didn't put it on until right before entering the hotel.
