CIO-Asia - Gen Y and Z are technology spearheads: IDC

CIO-Asia - Gen Y and Z are technology spearheads: IDC | we-Learning | Scoop.it

In emerging markets like Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, members of Gen Y and Z, coined for people who were born in or after 1980, are spearheading the adoption of social networking and collaborative tools, according to Sandra Ng, group vice president - ICT practice, IDC Asia Pacific.

The populations within these emerging markets are dominated by a young middle class population. This means that they practically grew up accessing technology that is mainly cloud-based and "they can't tell the difference whether its cloud or not, and simply do not care," said Ng.

Meanwhile, on the enterprise IT side, the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend is still in its infancy, with many CIOs still looking at how to smoothly incorporate different and multiple mobile devices into their infrastructures.

The Potential for Online Learning: Promises and Pitfalls (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE.edu

The Potential for Online Learning: Promises and Pitfalls (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE.edu | we-Learning | Scoop.it
EDUCAUSE Review Online

"To realize the potential and promise of online learning (and MOOCs), colleges and universities must be aware of the pitfalls while taking full advantage of the wonderful, if problematic, opportunities provided by ingenuity and technological prowess..."

Propositions

  1. We need to distinguish among target populations.
  2. Different pedagogies are right for different disciplines.
  3. A limited degree of "local" customization of online courses is important and should be facilitated.
  4. It is critically important that we assemble more real evidence, from more rigorous research, concerning the learning outcomes associated with online offerings.
  5. We must focus self-consciously, and relentlessly, on controlling educational costs.
  6. System-wide thinking is required; many of the most challenging questions for our educational system cannot be addressed on a single-campus basis.
  7. New thinking is needed on faculty roles and on optimal organizational and decision-making mechanisms.8. Stratification worries deserve much more attention than they receive.

Understanding the Building Blocks of Online Learning: Part 3 | Contact North

Understanding the Building Blocks of Online Learning: Part 3 | Contact North | we-Learning | Scoop.it
Daniel Tan's insight:

Bates has observed that it is important to understand that technologies used for teaching are not pedagogically neutral but can be more or less suited to a particular teaching approach. The effective implementation of online learning requires you to consider your view of the nature of knowledge, what you believe constitutes effective teaching, how you apply these beliefs to your discipline, and the implications for choice of technologies and their integration into your practice.
