Lent | The Write Room Blog

Lent | The Write Room Blog | Water the mind - READ | Scoop.it

Ash Wednesday begins the forty-day liturgical season called Lent. When we say liturgical, we refer to “public church worship.” Churches that are Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican, Orthodox, Methodist, Presbyterian, Amish, and Mennonite observe annual Lenten services. The first four mentioned churches most formally observe Lent.

Turning Winter Into Summer by Linda Hales | The Write Room Blog

Turning Winter Into Summer by Linda Hales | The Write Room Blog | Water the mind - READ | Scoop.it

If you despair of the severe winter weather and dream of escape to warmer climes but a real life break is out of the question, you are not alone. After all, kids must attend school, many stay back to mind the store and there are any number of reasons why we are forced to remain at home and brave the elements. Still, tempers run short and sore backs prevail from shoveling that sidewalk one too many times.

But hey, who among us doesn’t have a vivid imagination, sufficient to take us wherever we wish to go? I know that I do and dedicate this space to the fantasies of a few talented writers who will paint their vacation masterpieces to share with you, each in his or her unique style and fervency. The authors who have contributed their short stories each have a fresh take on their own ideal vacation escapade.

Sharla Shults's insight:

Summer and vacations go together like apple pie and ice cream! Spring time begins, school ends with autumn not far ahead, but it is summer that lies in between!

Literary Misinterpretations and New Insights by James L. Secor | The Write Room Blog

Literary Misinterpretations and New Insights by James L. Secor | The Write Room Blog | Water the mind - READ | Scoop.it

From the first time I read Oedipus Rex all the way through doctoral studies, all I heard was that Oedipus was the tragic hero, the man fated to fall; I heard that he suffered from hybris–excessive, overweening pride–as all the tragic heroes do. (This is, incidentally, not true; the more so regarding Oedipus.)

Sharla Shults's insight:

Oedipus suffered but he was not the author of his tragedy; he did not bring it down on himself via pomp and circumstance. He was not due for a fall, for a comeuppance, like his mother-wife.  But is he not to blame? He did not know. In his ignorance is he innocent?  Now. . .what do you see?

Poetry by Sharla

Poetry by Sharla | Water the mind - READ | Scoop.it

Check out http://sharlashults.com! Home Page The heart of my writing beats steadily sending soulful messages of life. The poetic words are the vessels through which the blood of inspiration travels. As the arteries of the human heart form a branching system so do the vessels of poetry diverge in different directions, in my case, two different messages. The first message is from the heart inspired by life, love and whispers of yesterday. While some thoughts are fact and others fiction, the recollections are rooted in moments to evoke a personal emotion, set a purpose for tomorrow, and provide an insight for reflection. It is a means for sharing love, dreams and inspirations to send a heart racing, free a heart of grief or perhaps even offer a path for forgiveness.

Sharla Shults's insight:

Welcome to my world, my writing, my website...open the door to discovery and reflection.

The Disappearing Frying Pan by Clayton Clifford Bye | The Write Room Blog | Water the mind - READ | Scoop.it

The young pilot who picked him up at dawn hit the tops of the trees with his pontoons during take-off, grinning from ear to ear all the while. Not that Mike Money really minded. After a night at Webequie he was happy to see anyone. The place bothered him. He was pretty sure it was haunted...

A well crafted story. Even if it is fictional, it accurately depicts how such an event would have played out.

Television: What has happened? | The Write Room Blog

Television: What has happened? | The Write Room Blog | Water the mind - READ | Scoop.it

Reality shows have taken over the prime time airways. Is that because the public no longer wants to think? Is it because people want mindless television? Fran Lewis has asked the members of The Write Room Blog to respond. As editor of MJ Magazine, Fran considers this an important issue for discussion, and we agree. Should the media help sedate the populace or challenge us to think and grow?

Sharla Shults's insight:

Television has become an overrated ‘must have’ for any household! Turn off the TV and step outdoors. There is a whole world of beautiful, exciting events happening on any given day that is better than seeing what the Kardashians have to offer! I only use them as an example. Do NOT watch their show…see enough, hear enough about them to warrant them as a turn off.

FRACTURE The Secret Enemy Saga A Paranormal Fantasy Novel si fi-fantasy-romance novels and books

Strange things are happening in the little town of Blessing. The townsfolk are dreaming of angels. They're happy, content, after all this is Blessing. Seemingly random deaths begin to happen. A lonely old drunk dies in a camper fire. A young factory worker dies of a drug overdose and a young woman's parents are brutally murdered for no apparent reason. There is a reason. A hunger. The kind of hunger that cannot be quenched with simple food and water. A hunger that is not from our world and there is one who has been sent to stop it. An assassin sent by a king from a world so close a mere fracture separates the two. His mission is to get in and out before he or his prey are discovered, but fate has a different plan. Follow Tegrin, a king's most trusted Guardian, and Kristina, a strongwilled young woman whose revenge for her parents murders sends them on a collision course that will change their lives forever.

Sharla Shults's insight:

In addition to finding out more about her book, Virginia offers insight into reviews going bye-bye on Amazon. Her idea: move them to your blog. That way, your readers and future readers can see what others are saying about your work.
