Sue's Scoop's insight:

History of the Wars of the World since America became a nation, told by Michael Rivero. Agree with his ending opinion though his version of what - and who - started some of the wars seemed overly simplified (i.e. War of Independence, War of 1812, etc.).

Drone strikes kill, maim and traumatize too many civilians, U.S. study says

Drone strikes kill, maim and traumatize too many civilians, U.S. study says | War & Peace: America's hidden agendas | Scoop.it
Study: Drone strikes in Pakistan have killed far more people than the United States has acknowledged and traumatized innocent residents.
Sue's Scoop's insight:

U.S. study challenging government figures on death rates from drones. Given how they've grossly underestimated Iraqi civilian deaths, it wouldn't surprise me at all that they're doing the same thing here. And for the government to say that when they happen they're only accidental is disingenuous at best.

Chuck Hagel Faces Tough Confirmation from Senate Hawks for Rejecting Party Line on Israel, Iran

Chuck Hagel Faces Tough Confirmation from Senate Hawks for Rejecting Party Line on Israel, Iran | War & Peace: America's hidden agendas | Scoop.it
President Obama is expected to unveil the nomination today of former Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska as the next secretary of defense, replacing Leon Panetta.
Sue's Scoop's insight:

Nominating Chuck Hagel would definitely be a step in the right direction for the U.S., both in terms of not blindly following Israel's policies, and also in terms of cutting back on defense spending for "wars of choice" not necessity.

Sue's Scoop's insight:

This is an absolute MUST SEE movie. If every American saw this movie, the Department of "Defense" would be out of business. It puts our current wars in context with history but more importantly it describes the role media is playing in keeping Americans in the dark about what's really going on behind the scenes with all the wars we're waging around the world.

American Israel Public Affairs Committee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC, pron.: /ˈpæk/ AY-pak) is a lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States. The current President of AIPAC is Michael Kassen from Fairfield, Connecticut.[3]

Describing itself as "America's Pro-Israel Lobby",[3] AIPAC is a mass-membership, American organization whose members include Democrats, Republicans, and independents. The New York Times has called it "the most important organization affecting America's relationship with Israel."[4] It has been described as one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington, DC. Its critics have stated it acts as an agent of the Israeli government with a "stranglehold" on the United States Congress with its power and influence.[citation needed] There is some disagreement as to where AIPAC's agenda lies ideologically. Some critics on the political left allege that AIPAC holds views that are politically conservative in their nature,[citation needed] while AIPAC's membership has also been described as "overwhelmingly Democratic" by conservatives.[5] AIPAC describes itself as a bipartisan organization,[6] and bills it lobbies for in Congress are always jointly sponsored by both a Democrat and Republican.[7]

In 2005, a Pentagon analyst pleaded guilty to charges of passing US government secrets to two AIPAC staffers in what is known as the AIPAC espionage scandal. Both staffers were later fired by AIPAC.[8] In 2009 all charges against the former AIPAC employees were dropped.[9]

Sue's Scoop's insight:

What's behind our relationship with Israel - VERY powerful lobbies.

Gulf War Coverage

Gulf War Coverage | War & Peace: America's hidden agendas | Scoop.it
The morning after the U.S. began the bombing of Iraq, NBC's Robert Bazell reported the Pentagon's assessment via the Today show: "It was spectacular news," Bazell summarized. "We've lost only one c...
Sue's Scoop's insight:

The following quotes from the article above describes how the major TV news networks are directly tied to military/defense spending (and hence "pro-war"):

"Most of the corporate-owned media have close relationships to the military and industry: The chair of Capital Cities/ABC, for example, is on the board of Texaco, and CBS's board includes directors from Honeywell and the Rand Corporation."

"Bringing the Facts to Light: GE/NBC:

... No news outlet is as potentially compromised as NBC, wholly owned by General Electric. The Boston-based corporate watchdog group, INFACT, reports that in 1989 alone GE received nearly $2 billion in U.S. military contracts for systems employed in the Gulf War effort. Conflicts-of-interest at NBC were an ongoing problem, as when the network aired a laudatory segment on the Patriot missile (1/18/91), for which GE produces parts. Brokaw called the Patriot "the missile that put the Iraqi scud in its place."

NBC's potential conflicts go beyond weaponry. The government of Kuwait is believed to be a major GE stockholder, having owned 2.1 percent of GE stock in 1982, the last year for which figures are available (OPEC's Investment and the International Financial System, by Richard Mattione).

Having profited from weapons systems used in the Gulf, and anticipating lucrative deals for restocking U.S. arsenals, GE is also poised to profit from the rebuilding of Kuwait. GE told the Wall Street Journal (3/21/91) it expects to win contracts worth "hundreds of millions of dollars."
