This article was talking about how we (the US) did alot to try and get rid of the amount of terrorism , and we have spent so much fighting. In the article it said that we had spent billions just to fight in and with other countries. There were many efforts made by the Bush administration, which are now effecting how President Obama wants to decrease the amount of terrorist attacks.

Obama:U.S. remains prepared to act on Syria if diplomacy fails

Obama:U.S. remains prepared to act on Syria if diplomacy fails | War on Terror | Scoop.it

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama vowed on Saturday that Syria will be held to account if it fails to live up to its promises to surrender chemical weapons as he faced questions about how a deal brokered by U.S. and Russian diplomats would be enforced.

In a statement, Obama said a framework deal was an important, concrete step toward getting Syria's chemical weapons under international control so they can ultimately be destroyed. The deal emerged from Geneva talks between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"While we have made important progress, much more work remains to be done," said Obama.

Obama has been bombarded with criticism for his handling of Syria and a muddled message. First, he took U.S. forces to the brink of a military strike over an August 21 poison gas attack in Syria that Washington blames on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He then asked Congress to authorize the strike, but less than a week later requested lawmakers hold off on a vote to allow diplomacy more time.

He now faces questions about how the Syrian diplomatic deal will be enforced. Senior administration officials said on Friday the United States will not insist that the use of military force be included among the consequences Syria would face in a U.N. Security Council resolution being negotiated, in order to avoid a Russian veto.

Obama, in his statement, insisted that the United States "remains prepared to act" should diplomatic efforts fail.

But Republican Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham, who have sharply criticized Obama's handling of Syria, said the deal is meaningless unless backed up with the threat of military force.

"It requires a willful suspension of disbelief to see this agreement as anything other than the start of a diplomatic blind alley," they said.

But Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Democratic minority in the House of Representatives, disagreed. She said the agreement will allow for enforcement under the U.N. charter's Chapter 7, which covers the use of military force.

"The firm and united response agreed upon today to end Syria's deadly use of chemical weapons was only made possible by a clear and credible threat of the use of force by the United States," said Pelosi.

The US has no interest in Syria. It's not our war, it's a civil war within and both sides are enemies of the US. Humanitarian aid and support to refugees is all we should provide. It is treason to be providing arms to our enemies, and use our military as their defense. Syrian rebels used Sarin nerve gas, not Assad’s regime: U.N. official

Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior U.N. diplomat said Monday.

Carla del Ponte, a member of the U.N. Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, told Swiss TV there were “strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof,” that rebels seeking to oust Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad had used the nerve agent.

Liberal Hypocrisy in Iraq and Syria

http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/liberal-wmd-hypocrisy-in-iraq-and-syria ;

President Obama is weighing a military strike against Syria that would be of limited scope and duration, designed to serve as punishment for Syria’s use of chemical weapons and as a deterrent, while keeping the United States out of deeper involvement in that country’s civil war, according to senior administration officials.

The timing of such an attack, which would probably last no more than two days and involve sea-launched cruise missiles — or, possibly, long-range bombers — striking military targets not directly related to Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal, would be dependent on three factors: completion of an intelligence report assessing Syrian government culpability in last week’s alleged chemical attack; ongoing consultation with allies and Congress; and determination of a justification under international law.

Remember Bashar the Reformer?

American officials who for ego or because of animosity toward George W. Bush did their best to end Assad’s isolation. It’s always fun to read their statements reporting Assad’s willingness to solve mutual problems.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.), who took time out to tour the markets to maximum benefit for Syrian state television.Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), more John Kerry, and even more John Kerry. That second story reminds how the Obama administration once went so far as to give Syria spare parts for its planes. The late Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Penn.), at the time still a Republican, might have acted as a tour guide: His trip with Nelson and Kerry was his 16th taxpayer-funded trip to Damascus, and it was not his last.Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may not have gone herself, but she used her senate colleagues’ experience meeting Assad to justify her description of him as a reformer. “There’s a different leader in Syria now,” she told CBS’s Face the Nation, explaining, “Many of the members of Congress of both parties who have gone to Syria in recent months have said they believe he’s a reformer.”Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) spent nearly $8,000 on two trips to Damascus, while Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) spent nearly twice that, according to Legistorm.Gen. David Petraeus repeatedly asked President George W. Bush for permission to go tête-à-tête with Assad in Damascus; let’s be glad Bush said no, both because it saved Petraeus the embarrassment and denied Assad a propaganda coup.

Perhaps in this age of budget-cutting, it would be useful to ask Pelosi, Kerry, and Nelson—all of whom still serve publicly—about what in hindsight they see as the value of their trips to Syria

I vote that we get those missiles back as soon as possible. We have them there for a reason--the country that they are currently placed in are placed there because the people there we misbehaving and causing trouble. I don't think that we were about to use them, but the people from the country might have other thoughts of what to do with them. 400 missiles is a lot of explosives and a lot of moneys worth, and could potentially cost the US a lot of innocent lives if we don't retreive them.

Americans among injured in deadly Kenya mall attack

Americans among injured in deadly Kenya mall attack | War on Terror | Scoop.it

Somali militant group al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the deadly shooting at a mall in Kenya, according to several media reports.

"On its Twitter feed, the al-Qaeda-linked group said it confirmed it was behind what it called the 'Westgate spectacle,'" according to the BBC.

The group took responsibility after gunmen attacked a shopping mall in an upscale district of Nairobi on Saturday, killing more than two dozen people in what is believed to be a targeted attack by extremists against non-Muslim Kenyans and Westerners in the area.

The Red Cross reports 30 dead, according to Agence France-Presse and Easy FM radio. Kenyan police told the Daily Nation that at least more than 50 were also injured in the attack, which was allegedly carried out by five to 10 gunmen with AK-47s and other sophisticated weapons.

Americans were among those injured, Marie Harf, deputy spokesman for the State Department, tells CNN and the BBC.

The attack, which took place midafternoon, according to Kenya's Daily Nation, began after gunmen tossed grenades and opened fire as panicking shoppers fled the building, some jumping down one story from the second floor of the mall to escape, witnesses told the paper.

I think that although we may be tired of fighting in wars that we weren't involved in, it'd still be smart to join anyway. I think that we should do this because we didn't join WW2 until a while, and that cost us a lot just because no one would stand up to Hitler. What I'm trying to say is that we should do it anyway so that we could hopefully keep things in check before they get out of hand.
