You know...it's a rare but real privilege to have an acquaintence with a real man of God. Pastor Manning (this guy) is such a man. Pastor's aren't perfect but generally speaking you're much more likely to get 'straight' talk and fundamentally sound talk from them than most other types of people. In this clip, Pastor Manning is talking about 'trust'... certainly a worthy subject that ones appreciates the importance of more and more as one gets older.
I also enjoy listening to Pastors who know their Bible well because there is SO much interesting detail in the Bible that people just don't 'get' unless they study and ponder it like these guys do.
For example, did you realize that Moses lived for 40 years in the Pharaoh's court before he left and wandered around in the country for ANOTHER 40 years as a shepherd. That's a pretty big swing in lifestyle, wouldn't you say?
It was out there in those hills that he had his encounter with the burning bush that was actually God and where, at the age of 80 (!!) years old, God gave him another assignment.. i.e. to go back to Pharaoh and tell him to 'let my people go'. And...talk about keeping your mouth shut and not asking questions....Moses just said "Yessir!" and did it but he had no idea that he was going to be walking around ion the Sinai for 40+ years after that.
And did you know that his Abraham's wife Sarah had Issac when she was 70 (or was it 90?) years old. When Abraham told her that an Angel of the Lord had told him that she was gonna have a kid, at that late age, she laughed. And that's why Issac means 'laughter' in ancient Hebrew or whatever the spoke back then.
But the point of Pastor Manning's talk here is about trust. One would like to think that life has a purpose and, if you belief in a divine creator, that He is the one who determines that purpose. But it's a sad fact that there's little or nothing divine about the footprints that most people leave on this earth.
So...Pastor Manning's point is that even if I'm older (which I sorta am, I guess) or if you're older, it's never too late for YOU to find out from God what your real purpose it. And you should never underestimate the importance of your purpose in God's plan.
My suspicion is that one just needs to be ready. Or maybe a better word is actually 'willing'.... for your assignment. Because if YOU are willing....God will make sure you've got everything you need to complete your purpose.
