wanderingsalsero's insight:

A new friend of mine told me about this place today.  I've been wanting to get out of the scrounginess of Manila and see some of what I know is the really pretty parts of the Philippines.  So I think I'll put this place on my list of 'must see' places pretty soon.  I might even take a guest.  If I do, it'll be the first vacation I've had in years, and years, and years.

Indonesia Verifies Reports on AirAsia Plane’s Emergency Landing

Indonesia Verifies Reports on AirAsia Plane’s Emergency Landing | Wandering Salsero | Scoop.it
A relative of a missing passenger has reportedly received a text message from an unknown sender, stating that the plane made an emergency landing and all passengers are alive.
wanderingsalsero's insight:

Well..that certainly sounds like a pretty sophisticated communication system to me? They're flying a multi-million dollar plane, the plane disappears but apparently makes an emergency landing somewhere, the company stock was probably about to 'tank' and the CEO commit suicide, relatives were getting ready to storm the airline's offices...and somebody finally finds out what's going on via a text message on a smart phone (i.e. "SOCIAL MEDIA)??!!

Very cool. Indonesians, right? Isn't that where Obola is from?

Fox News Journalist Confirms Ebola Cover-Up

Fox News Journalist Confirms Ebola Cover-Up | Wandering Salsero | Scoop.it
Government keeping Americans in the dark.
wanderingsalsero's insight:

Remember Ebola?

It didn't go anywhere. Alex says there's credible evidence that there's a lot of it in the US that the feds have kept hidden. He also says it's still rampaging in Africa (I wasn't aware of that but...Africa's a long way away).

I still think that an Ebola epidemic would be the single easiest and seemingly non-partisan excuse for the feds to declare martial law.

Trapped Whittier Couple Underscores Need for Local Network - Liberty Crier | Wandering Salsero | Scoop.it
Forty-minutes after learning that a family friend was hospitalized, a Whittier, California couple found their apartment surrounded by men with guns who ordered the couple to obey their commands. This incident showcases the inherently coercive “service” of police institutions, and […]
wanderingsalsero's insight:

This video makes a very good point: it's getting to where having the cops protect you is more dangerous that the supposed dangers they're protecting you from. Here's a guy, in the video who (even though he sounds a bit hyper and Woody Allen-ish) I think had a legitimate point.

His wife was crying, some nosey, dumb-ass neighbour (who had no accountability for the problem he/she created) called the cops, and the cops came and created a potentially life-threatening incident over something that even Barney Fife from Mayberry could have handled better.

The point of the video is that there are tools, like the Safeguard app, which sound pretty cool to me, which can help citizens protect each other much better than cops can, and when necessary, ensure that cops don't overreact and kill innocent people as seems to be the 50/50 chance nowadays.

Any good sales person knows that stories sell. And this is an excellent story. It actually isn't that hard to believe that somebody who really loved humanity would do this. But most people, somehow, will find it not so hard to believe that a human would do this but rather difficult to believe that a deity would do it.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

This is a beautiful song. I wonder if she knew at this point that she had cancer? I suspect the piano player is her husband as I recall reading on Lhasa's Wikipedia page that her husband was a musician too and produced much (or all) of her music.

I'm thinking that singing (as well as any form of personal music performance) is one of the most direct 'gifts' that a person can give to others (in the case of concerts...a LOT of others).

It also occurs to me that really great musicians create traditions and emotions that go on even beyond their lives.

I think this story also shows how, for writers, it's valuable to get experience in lots of different types of writing.

Action Movies 2014 - Full Movie English Hollywood - New Action War Fiction Adventure Cinema Movies - YouTube

Share your videos with friends, family, and the world
wanderingsalsero's insight:

This was in INCREDIBLE movie. I read all the Edgar Rice Burrough's "John Carer Prince of Mars" books and every single one was great. And I remember that for a long time I wondered why nobody made a movie about them.

Then when somebody finally did I was excited about it but, I don't remember where I was when it came out, but I wasn't able to see it.

Then tonight I had the inclination to browse YouTube fore movies and my thoughts went to sci-fi. So... as I was browsing through the third page of the listing, I saw one that looked interesting. I recognized 'the Red Planet' on the art work right away. Anybody who reads sci-fi knows 'the Red Planet'.

It was kind of misleading though because it had some Vietnamese language in the 'description' but... I checked it out anyway. And sure-nuf, I could tell right away. It was the original movie, no subtitles or anything.

I remember that the reviews I had seen had sorta 'panned' the movie but now that I've seen it I think it was great.

That heroine, Dehah Thoris... I don't know who played her but she's REALLY pretty. And the costumes they put her in were absolutely beautiful.... they had her wearing a lot of what looked like Silver and Turquoise. And they also had her wear those tattoo-looking decorations like a lot of the women over here wear (I think it's a North African thing).

Anyway....MOST EXCELLENT MOVIE. It ends when John is just in the process of leaving the Earth for the second time to go back to Dejah Thoris. I really agree with one of the things he said at the end of the movie (although I don't recall it was in the book)...."Everybody should have a cause".

Praise God...he's right. I wonder if there's any hero's in Heaven?

wanderingsalsero's insight:

Without getting too specific or technical, I remember reading years ago that there was lots of really harmful stuff in many, if not most or all, of these drinks. This is going to come as great marketing collateral for people in MLM comanies (like Vemma, MonaVie, et.al.) who sell healthy alternatives to these beverages.

This is a BIG market though. If I was going to get into MLM and wanted something people understand, I'd strongly consider a company like Vemma.

Look at 2:45 in this vid when the dog is picked up and loved, like his owner probably used to do all the time. And then later when you can tell the dog is trembling probably with disbelieve at how he's found somebody to love him again.

Really touching.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

I don't doubt this. Something I always sensed not very far below the surface many years ago when I was in Bangkok was that the only tolerate foreigners. They don't necessarily 'like' them, as visitors, in the same way that peoople, for example, in Texas or the plains states are often just friendly on general principle.

I don't know what Bangkok cops make, in a salary, but I doubt that it's enough to entirely pre-empt any motivation for shaking down foreigners.

I've said it many times and it's still true. People don't change. The battle is good against evil.

Bang's Emergency Surgery

Bang's Emergency Surgery | Wandering Salsero | Scoop.it
The wooden windows of the tiny room were open. For the first time in my numerous visits, the room was empty. No Bang laying on the bed, no Ooy scampering around like a mouse after a triple espresso....
wanderingsalsero's insight:

If any of my readers, all 7 of them, might want to do something to get some good karma, I don't think you could do much better than send Bang some money. Seriously...

Thailand has been a special country to the people of the world for many years. I don't mean for the sex traffic that gets most of the press but I do mean for the peaceful, beautiful side of the people and the country. It's been a long time but I'll never forget the beauty that I found there even in spite of my childish motivations at the time.

My situation has recently changed and it looks like I'm going to be moving to Barranquilla, Colombia soon but, if I had my choice, I'd go to Thailand. Only reason I don't is because I hear the visa situation has gotten so weird that I wouldn't feel comfortable attempting to negotiate it.

Anyway..about Bang.... if you've got an extra $10 or $20 it would really be appreciated. This blog author Scott Mallon, has a really nice blog and you can contact him.

If you've got a normal PayPal account, you can just get his email address and send him some money that way. Me...I have to ask him to send me an invoice...which I've done several times already and just did again when I learned that Bang was in the hospital.

Bang reminds me of all the old people that die every day around the world...their lives, for better or for worse...over. But he's special because he's from The Land of Smiles...which I think the world needs more of today.
