Ducati North America – Heart Forward & Successful | Ultimate MotorCycling | Wandering Salsero | Scoop.it
Following a record year of sales, Ducati North America looks forward to 2013 due to the release of the Hyperstrada, the Panigale 1199R, the Hypermotard SP and the Diavel Strada.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

Sometimes I'm not sure I like that ass-up-in-the-air look.  But generally I like these Ducatis.  This thing to remember is that you don't have to have these large displacement bikes to have fun.  Even 200 cc's is plenty to get into trouble.

Bang's Emergency Surgery

Bang's Emergency Surgery | Wandering Salsero | Scoop.it
The wooden windows of the tiny room were open. For the first time in my numerous visits, the room was empty. No Bang laying on the bed, no Ooy scampering around like a mouse after a triple espresso....
wanderingsalsero's insight:

If any of my readers, all 7 of them, might want to do something to get some good karma, I don't think you could do much better than send Bang some money. Seriously...

Thailand has been a special country to the people of the world for many years. I don't mean for the sex traffic that gets most of the press but I do mean for the peaceful, beautiful side of the people and the country. It's been a long time but I'll never forget the beauty that I found there even in spite of my childish motivations at the time.

My situation has recently changed and it looks like I'm going to be moving to Barranquilla, Colombia soon but, if I had my choice, I'd go to Thailand. Only reason I don't is because I hear the visa situation has gotten so weird that I wouldn't feel comfortable attempting to negotiate it.

Anyway..about Bang.... if you've got an extra $10 or $20 it would really be appreciated. This blog author Scott Mallon, has a really nice blog and you can contact him.

If you've got a normal PayPal account, you can just get his email address and send him some money that way. Me...I have to ask him to send me an invoice...which I've done several times already and just did again when I learned that Bang was in the hospital.

Bang reminds me of all the old people that die every day around the world...their lives, for better or for worse...over. But he's special because he's from The Land of Smiles...which I think the world needs more of today.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

I get a few thoughts from watching this video:

1.  I'm embarrassed to admit it (because I'm a Salsa and Bachata dancer) but I really think these West Coast Swing dancers have a lot more style in what they do.

2.  I REALLY like WCS type music.

I took WCS back at SSQQ in Houston and I did like it. I never got into the WCS culture back then but I think I should have.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

I think if I would have known about this school, i.e. this band, when I went to college in 1961, I might have gone here. They have more fun that any group of college kids I know of. Imagine having a 'tree' as your mascot, and then later, 'a French Fry'. I first discovered them on YouTube a few years ago. There's another group, similar in attitude, called NSU or VSU or something like that. They're a high school group though.

Thailand eyeing tighter restrictions on foreign businesses - Thailand News

Page 1 of 6 - Thailand eyeing tighter restrictions on foreign businesses - posted in Thailand News: Thailand eyeing tighter restrictions on foreign businesses

wanderingsalsero's insight:

You know, it's getting where every day now I see something with at least a hint, or sometime 'a big dose', of 'anti-foreigner in it. For that reason, it's impossible to avoid the conclusion that Thailand is getting very nationalistic and anti-foreigner.

Personally I think that's a mistake because I don't think they're as smart as they think they are as far as running their own country and/or turning it into an economic power-house on their own.

They don't have any natural resources to speak of, other than for tourism (e.g. tourism resources like beaches and plenty of labor, and a culture that thinks very little of selling their daughters into prostitution). Their biggest resource, and indirectly the source of some of their problems, is their Chinese business segment....i.e. they're the people who get things done (from what I hear).

If they don't like foreigners, it wouldn't be that hard to just tighten up their own morals. Then they wouldn't have the kinds of problems they have with foreigners.

Frank Zappa Exposing the illuminati - YouTube

THIS IS A VIDEO OF A TEACHER PUTTING A KID IN HIS PLACE
wanderingsalsero's insight:

Wow! I am amazed at what I've learned about Frank Zappa this eventing. I always knew he was kooky, and I always knew he was part of the 60's and 70's protest movement, I always knew he was a unique musician, and I recently learned he was an exceptional musician but I never knew (until tonight) how perceptive, 'right-on, and avant-guard he was as a social commentator.

This interview proves it:

10:14... he predicts bio-warfare (but listen to the completely dumb-ass interviewer and notice how Frank immediate writes him off as another idiot member of the brain-dead media.

10:40...he says, "Let's look at the world the way it really is" and goes on to say that the global power-elite (i.e. big corporations) will never allow a nuclear war because it destroys the property that they can steal in other ways What he's talking about is things like fluoridation of the water, toxic vaccines, chemicals being sprayed in the atmosphere, etc.

Toward the end of the interview he talks about censorship, the simple way parents could do it it the really wanted to, and about how big business (in collusion with the government) controls people by depriving them of music (or other forms of art) that encourage them to think for themselves and make their own decisions.

This interview is so full of prescience it's almost unbelievable.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

This in an interesting insight into Thailand but frankly I don't this it, in itself, is a good reason not to go there. As I've noted lately, a lot of the glimmer of Thailand has faded lately because of the alarming rise in crime. One could reasonably wonder why that rise.

There still remain lots of people however who like Thailand just fine. They say you've just got to be careful where you go and what you do.

There are people who think the Philippines is dangerous too. Me, I lived there for 3 years and I didn't think so...but of course I didn't go everywhere. There are plenty of other reasons to not like the Philippines other than mere crime.

wanderingsalsero's insight:

This is especially significant because it took place in the 'north' of Thailand. Some people say that the 'Thais' in the north are friendlier that the Thais in other areas of the country. I've heard that the further south you go, down toward Malaysia, the more unfriendly people get toward foreigners.

Seriously, at least 3 times a week now, I'm reading about something like this happening in The Land of Smile. I'd steer clear of it now. Cambodia is the place to go if you're on a budget. If you've got money, Singapore or the larger cities in Malaysia would be better.

Author claims Thailand is among world's most deadly destinations

Author claims Thailand is among world's most deadly destinations | Wandering Salsero | Scoop.it
Thailand: Deadly Destination has been penned by Australian author John Stapleton, and explains how corruption and crime have blighted a country once known as the 'Land of Smiles'.
wanderingsalsero's insight:

Frankly, I've been expecting this information to hit the main-stream news for some time. I get updates from a website called www.thaivisa.com and they run these stories at least once if not twice a week. Right now, frankly, I think I'd pick Cambodia over Thailand for sure.

I will admit, however, that foreigners have been misbehaving in Thailand even back in the Vietnam War era when all the GI's used to go there for the easy sex tourism. It's a huge industry (I'm not condemning the girls). I can't blame Thais for not liking foreigners.

Any time you have a big night-life industry, especially in a developing country where pay-offs are par-for-the-course, you've got to expect stuff like this to happen.

Action Movies 2014 - Full Movie English Hollywood - New Action War Fiction Adventure Cinema Movies - YouTube

Share your videos with friends, family, and the world
wanderingsalsero's insight:

This was in INCREDIBLE movie. I read all the Edgar Rice Burrough's "John Carer Prince of Mars" books and every single one was great. And I remember that for a long time I wondered why nobody made a movie about them.

Then when somebody finally did I was excited about it but, I don't remember where I was when it came out, but I wasn't able to see it.

Then tonight I had the inclination to browse YouTube fore movies and my thoughts went to sci-fi. So... as I was browsing through the third page of the listing, I saw one that looked interesting. I recognized 'the Red Planet' on the art work right away. Anybody who reads sci-fi knows 'the Red Planet'.

It was kind of misleading though because it had some Vietnamese language in the 'description' but... I checked it out anyway. And sure-nuf, I could tell right away. It was the original movie, no subtitles or anything.

I remember that the reviews I had seen had sorta 'panned' the movie but now that I've seen it I think it was great.

That heroine, Dehah Thoris... I don't know who played her but she's REALLY pretty. And the costumes they put her in were absolutely beautiful.... they had her wearing a lot of what looked like Silver and Turquoise. And they also had her wear those tattoo-looking decorations like a lot of the women over here wear (I think it's a North African thing).

Anyway....MOST EXCELLENT MOVIE. It ends when John is just in the process of leaving the Earth for the second time to go back to Dejah Thoris. I really agree with one of the things he said at the end of the movie (although I don't recall it was in the book)...."Everybody should have a cause".

Praise God...he's right. I wonder if there's any hero's in Heaven?

Stanford Band at Stanford pre-game Rally - South Beach Miami - YouTube

wanderingsalsero's insight:

I already tweeted about this but of course it didn't have the video. I REALLY think that if I had a dance club (which I might some day) I'd have half-time shows....exactly like this. Assuming of course I could find the band. Just imagine: most people in dance clubs went to high school and/or college and they know stuff like this. And you KNOW that any band would gladly do it...even if it was a somewhat reduced band..

I'd have the drumline start outside first, and then they'd come in (playing)....and then I'd have the drum major dance in .... leading the instrumentalists. WOW...it would really be awesome!!!

And of course the band members would be able to stay and dance the rest of the night for free. Wow...that would be great!

wanderingsalsero's insight:

It seems that Lady Gaga gets a lot of flack for lewdness or whatever lately. I haven't really followed her at all because I'm more into Latin. But....I'll always remember a few years ago when I saw her on some TV show, she didn't look quiet so bizarre then and I especially remember two things about her: (1) I think she has a very sweet voice, and (2) I remember that she played piano and I thought her chord, although not particularly exotic, were very strong and pretty. I also remember she said that she grew up in a church family so it's pretty clear to me that that's where a lot of her vocal influence comes from. I think she sings very well from what I have heard.

THIS IS A VIDEO OF A TEACHER PUTTING A KID IN HIS PLACE
wanderingsalsero's insight:

I'm glad I stumbled across this video tonight. First of all, because I've always liked Frank Zappa. But I'd never heard him actually speaking (i.e. rather than singing).

What amazes me her is how quiet-spoken he is and I really admire the way his answers are so economical and stay on-target.

It's also an interesting interview because of all the insight into the culture of his 'era'. Very very interesting and I see there's more interview material from him which I'm sure I'll be listening to.

I would imagine there's videos of his early band work on YouTube too.... which I've never seen. I've only heard him. I did read somewhere that he was actually a very good guitar player too...i.e. in a traditional 'blues' or R&R' sense.
