Iron-Dumping Experiment in Pacific Alarms Marine Experts

Iron-Dumping Experiment in Pacific Alarms Marine Experts | Walkerteach Geo | Scoop.it
From the NY Times:  "An environmental entrepreneur scattered 100 tons of iron dust in the Pacific Ocean this summer without any academic or government oversight, startling researchers and regulators."   Citizen science gone awry....See it on Scoop.it,...

A controversial experiment aimed at helping salmon population to recover sparks debate about what we do to our environment and who should be responsible for enforcing the necessary protection of it. Geoengineering is an interesting topic. In a time where global warming and high carbon burning emissions are becoming more and more of a problem there are some who argue that manipulating the environment to combat global problems is what we should do.

First dumping iron to help Salmon, but what's next?

Questions to Ponder:

1) How does iron dust relate to helping the salmon population?

2) What is geoengineering, what do you think about it?

3) Should we solve our problems by altering how nature works, or should we alter how we live our lives to let nature do its work?

Colbert Report: Junk Food Feed

Corn prices skyrocket, so livestock owner Joseph Watson starts feeding his cows secondhand candy.

A funny segment from the Colbert Report. It's interesting to see how a natural disaster can affect our agricultural choices. It's a great look into our food system and human environment interaction.
