See What Happens To Millions Of Pounds Of Las Vegas Buffet Leftovers

See What Happens To Millions Of Pounds Of Las Vegas Buffet Leftovers | Walkerteach Geo | Scoop.it
Watch the complete episode clip >
Luke Walker's insight:

The business insider deems this practice to be "putting an innovative spin on food recycling."

Would you agree with that? Is feeding food waste from all you can eat Las Vegas casino buffets to local pigs the sustainable answer?

There's a definitive connection between the buffet consumers, their food waste and the pigs who eat this waste. Here's a couple of thoughts:

1) How are the buffet diners and pigs similar?
2) What exactly are the pigs eating? Are there any moral or health implications?
3) Could these pigs return to the buffet as a main course? Why not?

Here's a youtube link to the full episode from Bizarre Foods America, it covers the whole behind the scenes story to food and culinary arts in Las Vegas:

8 ideas for the future of cities

8 ideas for the future of cities | Walkerteach Geo | Scoop.it
In 2012, the TED Prize was awarded to an idea: The City2.0, a place to celebrate actions taken by citizens around the world to make their cities more livable, beautiful and sustainable. This week, The City2.0 website evolves.
Luke Walker's insight:

Ever wonder how you can save the world? It's really simple, change the cities we live in.

With over 50% of the human population (that's about 3.5 billion people) cities have an ENORMOUS impact on the entire world.

The choices made by city inhabitants affect the world over. So how can we reshape cities and life in cities to benefit the world and ultimately save it from our unsustainable practices?
