Beginners IT-Security Guide

Beginners IT-Security Guide | VIM | Scoop.it

In 21st Century we need not ONLY talking about Internet-Safety, Online-Safety and IT-Security, but we need to secure our computers and ANY other related device connecting to Internet, such as also our smartphones! I will present you now a tutorial on How-To create best protection (as on March 2012) for your computer and this with mostly FREE tools and FREE Online Services…

Also will I provide you a worksheet which helps you planning your weekly tasks!

In 21st Century while using "Bring Your Own Device" (Hashtag for Twitter = #BYOD) there is a MUST to know about basic IT-Security knowledge! The teachers role is NOT anymore to be the MOST important person, but the LEARNER! So the teacher needs to have that basic knowledge to share it with its learners and to try to keep a safe Learning Workspace... Online and Offline, in the "internal learning network" and also in the "external learning network"!

As Teachers, Educators and Instructors we have to deal with Apps, OpenSource software, Freeware, different OS devices, so we need to know about the risks and dangers! We need to know how to get protected these devices also!

It's not ONLY the IT-Admin's responsibility, IT-Security is the responsibility of ALL of us!!!

Smart phones are an incredible educational tool for both educators and students. I have an Android Smart Phone and I can do pretty much everything with it that I can do on my computer or laptop or tablet. This means that I always have access to my data, files, information, and can do work anywhere. Students have the same ability with their smart phones. They have access to information, class resources, and so much more at any time. Instead of buying a $200 graphing calculator, they can buy a $0.99 app. There are tons of great apps out there for educators and students to use.

Here are some mobile / smart phone apps and resources for students and teachers:

Podcasts are a great way to get information when you’re driving in your car, making dinner at home, or waiting at the DMV to renew your license. Podcasts don’t force you to find more time in your day; they give you the opportunity to capitalize on all the dead time that already exists in your day by simply downloading the .mp3 or syncing a podcast to your iTunes account on your smartphone.

Even though podcasts have been around awhile, a lot of people still don’t utilize the hundreds of free podcasts available on the Internet. Now is a great time to start.

Konstantinos Kalemis's comment, August 9, 2012 9:53 AM
To work, the 21st century skills movement will require keen attention to curriculum, teacher quality, and assessment.
A growing number of business leaders, politicians, and educators are united around the idea that students need "21st century skills" to be successful today. It's exciting to believe that we live in times that are so revolutionary that they demand new and different abilities. But in fact, the skills student’s needs in the 21st century are not new.
Critical thinking and problem solving, for example, have been components of human progress throughout history, from the development of early tools, to agricultural advancements, to the invention of vaccines, to land and sea exploration. Such skills as information literacy and global awareness are not new, at least not among the elites in different societies. The need for mastery of different kinds of knowledge, ranging from facts to complex analysis? Not new either. Today we cannot afford a system in which receiving a high-quality education is akin to a game of bingo. If we are to have a more equitable and effective public education system, skills that have been the province of the few must become universal.
This distinction between "skills that are novel" and "skills that must be taught more intentionally and effectively" ought to lead policymakers to different education reforms than those they are now considering. If these skills were indeed new, then perhaps we would need a radical overhaul of how we think about content and curriculum. But if the issue is, instead, that schools must be more deliberate about teaching critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving to all students, then the remedies are more obvious, although still intensely challenging.

10 Incredibly Powerful Teaching Tools of the Future

10 Incredibly Powerful Teaching Tools of the Future | VIM | Scoop.it

Utopian visions of learning are tempting, if for no other reason than they absolve us of accountability to create it right now, leading to nebulous romanticizing about how powerful learning could be if we just did more of X and Y.
