Volkswagen, Europe’s biggest carmaker, plans to build its best-selling Golf hatchback in Mexico in a push for market share in North America, where it trails competitors.

David James's insight:

VW are moving a significant amount of their production from Germany into Mexico. Besides the initial investment which will contribute to Mexico's AD their will also be a significant increase in exports since the majority of the vehicles will be sold in the US.

Volkswagen see Brazil as an economy with great growth potential and are investing $4 billion into the economy. A key part of this investment is enviromental sustainability as they know this is a key issue and will become a very important factor for their production and sales in the years to come.

Safety legislation is to kill the Volkswagen Kombi after 63 years of continuous production
David James's insight:

VW will be replacing the Kombi with a newer model. This means production will slow for a while which will reduce GDP in the short term but in the long term there will be purchases by VW of capital goods for the production of the newer model which will increase investment and by extension increase AD.
