Say what you will about the tidal wave that is social media: it’s over-hyped, a fad halfway through its 15 minutes, that surely won’t be around in a few years’ time.
But take a look below at the steep curve of the user growth rate in all age ranges and demographics, and the continuing pervasiveness of social networking into every facet of work, play and life in general. It’s hard to argue that social media hasn’t changed forever how we interact and connect online.

Prediction: A Paradigm Shift in Social Media Sharing

Prediction: A Paradigm Shift in Social Media Sharing | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

Google + Circles has finally provided sharing in the way that most people want. Even Google may not realize the avalanche of changes it has started, though. Google’s implementation of Circles will usher in a new paradigm for sharing: one where we no longer focus on where we want to share but instead focus on who we want to share with.

Infographic: What every social media campaign must have

Infographic: What every social media campaign must have | visualizing social media | Scoop.it
Social media won't help your company one bit if you don't have a clear and compelling message to share.

Social media may be the new, trendy way for companies to communicate to their audiences, but it won't do anything to boost business if companies don't have a clear message to send.

In a recent infographic, Wickware Communications explains that in order to be successful on social media, a company must have a strong core message that explains "why you do what you do, what makes you different and better, and how it helps your clients." The graphic focuses on financial firms, but its takeaways are relevant to all companies.

The infographic emphasizes that to make messages clear, brands must have a strong voice that engages audiences and addresses their concerns, a memorable visual identity, and a believable communications statement.

companies track employees’ social media use in AND out of the office

companies track employees’ social media use in AND out of the office | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

A new survey has just been released that shows how companies approach social media in the workplace with some pretty surprising findings. When you work in a more open and flexible company, it’s easy to forget that many people, particularly in larger organisations, are subject to fairly intense monitoring or policing of access to social networks. And, somewhat worryingly, the policies adopted towards use of social media don’t just apply to the workplace, but outside of it as well.
