The Future of Mobility [Infographic]

The Future of Mobility [Infographic] | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

An astounding 80 percent of the world’s population now has a mobile phone—and 84 percent is unwilling to go a single day without their phone. About 45 percent of Americans say they can’t go more than a few hours without checking their phones. In 2012 there were five billion mobile phones in the world—1.8 billion of these were smart phones.

Facebook now reaches 76 percent of the smartphone market, and it accounts for 23 percent of total time spent using apps each month.

The next five most used applications are Google apps, and they account for 10 percent of app usage time. One of the latest smartphone trends is that things are getting less touchy but more sensitive. Gestures and other non-tap inputs are on the rise. Casting a sidelong glance, for example, can pause a video. Some apps are being developed that will switch from manual to voice to text to gesture, depending on what you are doing...

Why a Mobile Website Is Part of Any Business Plan [INFOGRAPHIC]

Why a Mobile Website Is Part of Any Business Plan [INFOGRAPHIC] | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

57% of mobile web users will end up not recommending a website if they had any trouble visiting it on their phones. If a business has a bad website for mobile devices, 34% of visitors will end up going to a competitors’ website.

According to WebpageFX, businesses should use CSS for the layout and not tables. They should code with XML or XHTML, and put all the important information on the top of the landing page. ”Mobile website users are usually busy doing something else like waiting in line, walking through town, or spending time out with friends,” reports WebpageFX. “Their main focus is not necessarily your website so information needs to be quick and easy to access.”

By 2015, mobile sales in the U.S. are expected to reach $31 billion (right now they’re at $6.7 billion). Businesses have to get ready and have a solid mobile site, since that’s where many sales will start taking place...

Time Spent on Instagram (infographic) | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

Instagram has reinvigorated many artistic endeavors: social photo-sharing, old-timey photographic styling, and foodie dining excitement, to name a few.

But none more so than the art of time-wasting...

Last fall, information from Comscore even reported that users were spending nearly 1.5 times the amount of time on Instagram as they were on Twitter. And just today, Instagram announced it has reached 90 million total users, proving the app isn’t disappearing from peoples’ fingertips any time soon.

I love that point Martin! I think people call it social because of the personal element to it as opposed to advertising and things like that, especially because it's so interactive in nature. Do you have a suggestion as to what to change the name to?
