[Infographic] Facebook Ad Performance by Industry | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

Ever wonder if your Facebook ads are performing better or worse than the industry standard for ROI – searching for some Facebook benchmarking data? What is the average CPM, CTR, CPC, the average cost per like, or average page like rate for your industry or business?

This graphic is based on data from Social.com’s study of 1 million ad units and over 114 billion impressions from January 1st to March 31st, 2013. The report analyzed the top 25 countries globally and top five countries per region based on impressions. All rates were converted to U.S. dollars using the average daily conversion rates during the reporting period.

You can use this data in many different ways – one of which is determining ROI of your Facebook Campaign to determine if social media is worth the ROI for your business.

How your ads rank on Facebook could have countless other reasons why it performs better or worse, ie - timing, image quality, messaging, target market, etc. Test on a relative basis with multiple ads.

What The Social Media Ecosystem Looks Like Right Now [Infographics]

What The Social Media Ecosystem Looks Like Right Now [Infographics] | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

The social media landscape is anything but constant — it seems like the ecosystem is changing daily...
This infographic shows what the social media landscape looks like right now. Unlike the famously viral LUMAscape depiction that crowds every single social media company into one infographic, this is a simpler visual of how things work "from customer service and R&D to HR and marketing."

The key question that brands have when planning and then analyzing social media campaigns is how to measure the impact that every dollar spent on paid social media has on the value their owned and earned social media.

An additional infographic analyzes the interaction of these three forms of social media, explaining:

"The high level analysis for media effectiveness takes all of earned and owned divided by paid. Earned is all the impressions generated divided by average CPM, owned includes all channels, and paid is the overall media spend. The higher the ratio, the more earned amplification is generated from paid."

Visualising Facebook: Your social data and personal infographics

Visualising Facebook: Your social data and personal infographics | visualizing social media | Scoop.it
The more we share online the more we leave a trail of personal data in our tracks. We can now start to explore this, for Facebook at least.

This may be data about what we say to whom on Twitter, when we are most active or the photos we take. Or it may be data that we have captured from a specific activity – data on every run I have done in the last two years is stored by Runkeeper, for example. To have such a constantly growing, structured personal data set is very new and it offers real opportunities for brands and platforms. But also for individuals themselves.

The quantity and depth of data that we are structuring about our lives even on one network comes as a surprise to many people. Taking Facebook as an example – the data we create about ourselves and our networks is vast, and often hidden from the consumer – you just can’t imagine what it might be. The first step to help you understand the amount of data you have stored and how it might be useful is to visualise it – and search engine Wolfram Alpha have now produced a report that takes this information and presents it back to you...

Sharing Your Data: Facebook’s Network of Worldwide Affiliates

Sharing Your Data: Facebook’s Network of Worldwide Affiliates | visualizing social media | Scoop.it
This Facebook infographic takes a look at the complex virtual network of affiliates behind the social media platform.

Earlier this week, Facebook’s proposed revisions to its legal agreements with users went into effect. One of the changes means that Facebook can now share your data with its affiliates. But who exactly are Facebook’s affiliates? Research now reveals that the company has at least 67 affiliate companies worldwide, with the results summarized in this infographic.

It has some great information about what Facebook’s legal agreements really mean to members and is a focused story that isn’t trying to overwhelm the reader too much information or distraction.
Lauren Moss's insight:

An interesting visual at the 'rapidly expanding physical footprint of the social network.'

Social Media Monitoring Across Industries [INFOGRAPHIC]

Social Media Monitoring Across Industries [INFOGRAPHIC] | visualizing social media | Scoop.it

Twitter has over 170 million active users, Facebook claims to have 950 million people using the service in a given month and even Google+ now boasts 100 million active users.

With these huge numbers of people worldwide using social networks to share news, sentiment, and thoughts every single day, there is a huge potential to use social media to monitor political sentiment, the stock market, public health and more. In fact, research shows that analysis of public mood can sometimes reflect the Dow Jones, can help predict political polling data and can even quickly pinpoint epidemics and flu outbreaks.

Take a look at how the extensive amount of data gleaned from social media can be used as an effective monitoring tool across industries and for different purposes in the infographic..

Infographic: The Astounding Power Of Pinterest

Infographic: The Astounding Power Of Pinterest | visualizing social media | Scoop.it
In our upcoming October design issue, one of the many fascinating feature stories we’ve lined up is a lengthy profile of Pinterest and its elusive CEO, Ben Silbermann.

That story goes live later this week, but until then, here's an infographic about Pinterest, created by Fast Company's staff and designed by our own Ted Keller.

In this profusion of figures, you find out a few, key things about the image-sharing service. For one, it’s dominated by women. Second, something about its layout and culture stokes an enormous buying impulse. And third, major brands are getting in on the act. It’s not a stretch to say that soon, at least on retail sites, a Pinterest button might become as ubiquitous as a Facebook Like. Check out the infographic, or tour the major findings in the accompanying slide show...
