NAS Modeling and Visualization Through the Years

NAS Modeling and Visualization Through the Years | 4D Pipeline - trends & breaking news in Visualization, Mobile, 3D, AR, VR, and CAD. | Scoop.it

Timeline of the 30-year evolution in modeling and simulation, performed on supercomputers operated by the NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Division at NASA's Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley—from the first Cray system in 1983 to NASA's flagship supercomputer, Pleiades, today. As systems and codes have improved, scientists and engineers have been able to produce increasingly accurate, detailed simulations for U.S. aerospace and science research projects ranging from the fluid dynamics within fuel injectors for aircraft, to massive computer models of Earth's ocean and atmosphere.

Neat - history of NASA visualizations (fluids, air, etc).

What's really amazing is that we've gone from one GPU core to NVIDIA Tesla Kepler K20X with 2688 CUDA Cores at 3.95 Tflops! Perfect for Seismic processing, CFD, CAE, Financial computing, Computational chemistry and Physics, Data analytics, Satellite imaging, Weather modeling.

New vision control api from 3GearSystems turns two Microsoft Kinnect devices into finger precise visual control system. Interesting approach and results look impressive. SDK is now in public beta - will be a charge for commercial use for companies with 100K+ turnover.

Their demo video is well worth watching. Click on the image or title for more info.
