It is interesting, but many adults bring their learning experiences with them into new learning and it has an impact. It would be important to work through the negative ones first.

Some times, when you are a KM'er, you just have to have a sense of humor - here's a model that intentionally makes no sense...which puts it then a step above those models that intend to make sense....but yet don't.  From the WTF Visualizations site (yes, that "WTF" and their tagline is: "Visualizations that make no sense") - a catchy little graphic that makes about as much sense as some of the models that I've seen in KM (e.g. -  Three Legged Stool; KM Pyramid; 3 Circles; KM Frameworks; maturity models, and so on)

A Beautiful Visual on The Importance of Games in Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Beautiful Visual on The Importance of Games in Learning ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Data Visualization & Storytelling | Scoop.it

by Med Kharbach

"Games are very important for learning and James Paul Gee has empirically proved this in his wonderful book " What Video Games Have to Teach Us about Learning and Literacy". Gee argues that games, particularly video games,  require the players to learn and think in ways at which they are not adept. He further states that games provide a life enhancing experience for learners and they also revolutionize the routinized ways of learning through fusing learning and play. You can learn more about Gee's book in this post I have published a few months ago.

"Regarding the importance of games and why they are good for learning, I am sharing with you the graphic below which visualizes some of the pluses of playing games for learners. Check it out and share with us what you think of it."

Why this "Data Visualization & Storytelling" Topic?

Why this "Data Visualization & Storytelling" Topic? | Data Visualization & Storytelling | Scoop.it

A straightforward answer would be the famous quote: "A picture worth thousands of words".

Here, my aim is to gather and offer the best articles from across the web that I can find on using Data Visualization and Storytelling in business.

I have bunch data visualization and storytelling together since Data visualization is, to me, a great means to perform Storytelling.

Visualization is a medium. It’s not just an analysis tool nor just a way to prove a point more clearly through data.

Visualization is like books. There are different writing styles and categories, there are textbooks and there are novels, and they communicate ideas in different ways for varied purposes. And just like authors who use words to communicate, there are rules that you should always follow and others that are guidelines that you can bend and break...

How To Find A Topic: Use the popular Tags panel above or Click on the Filter tab above, and type in a keyword. All the scoops and articles with that keyword will appear.

Note: I may occasionally review an article that I find out the either my insights were not giving accurately enough my stand-point.

I hope you find many great insights and interesting scoop here.

Slideshare The Visual Marketing SEO RPG - NEW @Scoopit BLOW IT UP Study

Slideshare The Visual Marketing SEO RPG - NEW @Scoopit BLOW IT UP Study | Data Visualization & Storytelling | Scoop.it
Scoop.it StudyI've often thought Slideshare was the great underutilized weapon of content marketing. Thinking that and having the data to prove are two different things. Thanks to the team at Scoop.it we now have the data to prove what I've FELT. In an extensive study the Scoop.it team shifted my thinking on Slideshare. Always knew Slideshare was POWERFUL SEO VooDoo because I've had several decks BLOW UP such as:http://www.slideshare.net/martinmartysmith/storytelling-new-seo Absolute #1 position on "Storytelling is the new SEO" and has been top ranked for over a year. http://www.slideshare.net/martinsellingzoe/content-marketing-network This deck held on for a year and has slide out of ranking now. You don't get much more SEO competitive than "Storytelling is the New SEO" and "Content Marketing Network so personal validation supports the Scoop.it team's great work here. The other paradigm they shifted for me today was thinking of Slideshare as an important "visual marketing" tool. Decks are LEAN, FAST and VIRAL so great ways to share and build authority and traffic. Just wish I could get my Slideshare profile styled better. Anyone know the secret sauce for that? Great work Scoopiteers!

Science may be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be ugly. These images, from a new exhibit at the British Library, show how beautiful scientific data can be.

The exhibit features classic illustrations dating to 1603, including John Snow’s map of London’s SoHo that’s credited with revealing a contaminated water pump as the source of a 1854 cholera outbreak. There also are beautiful modern visualizations of data from satellites and gene sequencers. The exhibit, Beautiful Science: Picturing Data, Inspiring Insight, runs through May 26.

Regardless of the content of the ad, the structure of that content predicted its success. “People are attracted to stories,” Quesenberry tells me, “because we’re social creatures and we relate to other people.”

Cutting carbon is not just about reducing emissions. The bulk of the problem lies along the supply chain, which should be meaningfully engaged.

The corporate sector is facing some stark and irrefutable truths regarding climate change.

First, at over 400 parts per million, atmospheric carbon is skyrocketing. If large companies are going to achieve their carbon reduction targets, it's imperative that they engage their supply base.
