Mind or Concept Mapping: Differences and Similarities

Mind or Concept Mapping: Differences and Similarities | Data Visualization & Storytelling | Scoop.it

Concept mapping and mind mapping are powerful graphic organizers, strategies for organizing and representing knowledge. They were developed during the seventies. The terms may seem to be interchangeable, but there are some differences in the way they are created and used.

For some people mind mapping and concept mapping may represent the same technique, however, there are some differences. This article compares these two terms and lists their similarities and differences in a simple mind map (or a concept map?).

While discussing, it is logic, the psycology, the better half. Once you decided to start with it is the best half, to go with the Science the proven subject, which needs some more reaserch for the betterment of the society. From this point the Science and Phylosophy go to gether, no body is not sure of the output. Respect each other and make the points to be solved and tobe promoted. No love, no fear, makes way for justice.

8 Fantastic Examples of Data Storytelling

8 Fantastic Examples of Data Storytelling | Data Visualization & Storytelling | Scoop.it

Data provides us with much more of a backstory that we usually realize. Maybe it’s because it takes an amazingly trained mind to harvest that data, or to create something visually compelling out of it—but we can do so much more with data than simply draw conclusions.

Emeric Nectoux's insight:

My favorite one among these 8: How Seattle Residents Determine Housing. This infographic shows at one sight what are the main criteria when it comes to housing.

This is a very useful list of tools that teachers can use to make their class room pedagogy more interesting and effective. The four online tools suggested by the writer include: Piktochart, Easel.ly, Canva, and Google Draw. I personally use webcharts and flow charts with a start and stop button. It does take some time to draw the webchart on the Greenboard, so I guess it would save time to do the same before class and then present it on a screen. This can be done very effectively in the teaching of Languages. Take for example a plot line for a novel where you have a flow of events starting from the introduction, on to the ascending movement or the complication on to the climax, or the turning point and then the ascending movement on to the anti climax and then the denouement. This could be beautifully done in an infographic! Infographics are visual representations of data that can be used to depict pictorially, timelines, process of transformation in  characters in novels, flow charts, plot lines, and information!

This was a game changer for a project I'm running in IBM.  The moment we were able to present data in a more visual way the users responded completely differently - even though the data itself was identical.  We in effect did some of the 'heavy lifting' in interpreting the data and refocused user 'call to action' away from interpretation and instead onto prioritization of what they were seeing and deciding what step to take next.
