A useful video tutorial here, just over 16 minutes long. It runs through the basics of using Google drive and how you can use it to collaborate with others. It also touches on Google Hangout.

I use Google Drive with my students as a writing space because I teach English via Skype. It suits our needs perfectly. Students create several folders e.g. some are homework spaces; collaborative areas such as wikis; creative writing pages and as a virtual space that we can jump into during the lesson to work on activities. It works for us. As a teacher I can dip into shared spaces at any time and guide and support learning which is a real advantage.

flea palmer's curator insight, August 30, 2013 3:56 AM

This is a really thorough tutorial and very timely as I'm currently exploring using Google Drive with students. Our dispersed team of Learning Technologists already use it for collaboration but there is not much use as yet by our academics and students. The ability to be able to integrate Drive with Google Hangouts is really powerful and has the potential to be a great tool for supporting Distance Learning.

How To...Have A Virtual Meeting | Visual Intelligence | Scoop.it

Matt Mullenweg has mastered the art of virtual conversation. The founder of Automattic the company behind WordPress shares his advice.

David Bennett's insight:

"Text-based chatting platforms like Gchat can be convenient, but words alone can distort messages. "Yeah, thanks" often becomes "That's fine, now buzz off." Since you don't have an audible tone of voice when chatting online, it's important to be extra sensitive and complimentary when giving feedback. Says Mullenweg: "If you're too short or curt, people generally assume the worst."

How to clear your Facebook search history

Can you lose your Facebook Page because you didn't follow the rules? Facebook would never shut down a Page because they ran a contest and did something like... oh, I don't know, maybe offer to donate a dollar to charity for every Like their Page gets... right?

I'm constantly seeing people saying they've never heard of a Page being shut down for violating a rule and that Facebook doesn't enforce most of them anyway. Well, here are two examples of some popular Pages that were shut down by Facebook for some seemingly innocent contest rule violations. Think it's okay to do it just because you see the big dogs doing it? Think again.

Only draw back is the Americanisation of the date. I like the fact I can have all of my events on the app and can share via social media during them. It's a great tool and really easy to use. Here's the one for the elearning showcase http://my.yapp.us/J9Y49R.

Six interesting examples of gamification in ecommerce

Six interesting examples of gamification in ecommerce | Visual Intelligence | Scoop.it

The video game industry is worth more than $100bn worldwide, so it's no surprise that businesses are using gamification to try to boost sales.

The idea is that by adding gaming elements to the sales process, such as small challenges and rewards, you can increase customer loyalty and advocacy.

As in every game or competition, the participants have to be motivated by a worthwhile reward. It’s also true that the greater the reward, the more you can ask people to do to earn the reward.
