Finally, a Cross-Platform HTML5 Game

Finally, a Cross-Platform HTML5 Game | Visual Innovation | Scoop.it
"We've been hearing about it for years: The collection of Web technologies known as HTML5 is the future of online publishing."

Apparently it is finally here I the form of a game: BoomTown developed by appMobi.

The salient point here is that it is truly cross platform (from web desktop to iOS to your Android phone) where you can stop and pick up play where you left off from device to device.

Breaking to lock on operating system-dependent functionality is a key factor in true application universality. Look next for Enterprise-aimed application development in HTML5, where the mobile users need to be accounted for and have full access regardless of platform.

Give Your Website Soul With Emotionally Intelligent Interactions | Smashing UX Design

Give Your Website Soul With Emotionally Intelligent Interactions | Smashing UX Design | Visual Innovation | Scoop.it

"In this article, we’ll look at some of the best examples of these emotionally intelligent interactions and how they infuse personality and soul into the websites and apps where they’re found."

Please notice that almost all of these interactions involve visual metaphors or imagery meant to drive a positive emotional reaction from the viewer. Gone are the days of the simple text popup with a numbered error message, or the plain old "click here" or "submit" buttons.

The big takeaway: every interaction on screen should feel like a person is on the other side listening and responding.

The Shapes of Stories, a Kurt Vonnegut Infographic | Visual Innovation | Scoop.it

From www.mayaeilam.com "My take on visually presenting Kurt Vonnegut’s theories about archetypal stories, designed after researching the subject."

Although there are other archetypal stories, and all of the ones shown here are linear, this is a great visualization of the emotional journey one takes going through these stories.

Design and Business Model Creation

Design and Business Model Creation | Visual Innovation | Scoop.it
Business Models are the corporate blueprints for generating revenue. Developing innovative business models and low-cost methods for establishing their validity and action ability can, therefore, offer huge competitive advantages.

Quoting further from the article, in regards to visual thinking in the design process and its importance in creating the business model, he says:

"Designers' visual communication, cross-pollinization and lateral thinking make them ideal facilitators of business model creation. A designers' unique ability to visualize concrete and abstract ideas enables them to clarify concepts as opposed to merely simplifying them. They can synthesize concepts from diverse information and propose concepts for team discussion. In some cases, they may even be able to assist in prototyping business models before substantial time and money are invested."

The Müller Formula (or: Predictable Color Preferences) (Livelygrey)

The Müller Formula (or: Predictable Color Preferences) (Livelygrey) | Visual Innovation | Scoop.it

More than half a century ago, Aemelius Müller, professor at the academy of Winterthur, Switzerland, came up with a formula that could predict the appreciation of a color-combination. In other words: Müller was able to predict which combination of colors most people would probably like.

In designing with the user in mind, Müller's Formula may be a helpful tool in creating more desireable web pages, interfaces and other visual components that will draw people back to use the site/app over and over again.

Meet the Urban Datasexual | Endless Innovation | Big Think | Visual Innovation | Scoop.it

The same cultural zeitgeist that gave us the metrosexual - the urban male obsessive about grooming and personal appearance - is also creating its digital equivalent: the datasexual. The datasexual looks a lot like you and me, but what’s different is their preoccupation with personal data. They are relentlessly digital, they obsessively record everything about their personal lives, and they think that data is sexy. In fact, the bigger the data, the sexier it becomes. Their lives - from a data perspective, at least - are perfectly groomed.

Visualising Data Quadrigram: New visual programming environment launches

Visualising Data Quadrigram: New visual programming environment launches | Visual Innovation | Scoop.it

Quadrigram.com - looking to compete with Tableau, Quadrigram offers an online service (SaSS) to develop your own charts, graphs and visualizations from data sets.

Instead of code, Quadigram relies on a Visual Programming Language that provides users with a unique drag-and-drop environment for exploring ideas. Much of the work is performed simply by connecting points along a data flow. What begins as a data sample or live stream, passes through an a series of modules, and is eventually encoded as processed data or visualizations, that can be kept private or published directly to the web. Along this flow, a user can set up interactive controls to modify parameters dynamically and see the output change in real time at the other end, thus never having to recompile to get results. Even the visualization modules themselves can be used as controls, which feed the whole process backwards, to enable further exploration of a data set.
