Designing (and converting) for multiple mobile densities

With Apple leading the movement, phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop displays are rapidly increasing in resolution.

This blog post by Travis Hines discusses and illustrates groups of densities, devices that make use of each of them, and how they relate to one another in size.

 

There is a handy tool for converting graphics for the different devices. I have not kept up with the pace so this post has been informative for me. It's important to know what size is needed when communicating with graphic designers. The four main groups are:


- non-retina (iOS) and mdpi (Android)

- hdpi (Android)

- retina (iOS)

- xhdpi (Android)
