In the Library with the Lead Pipe » How Well Are You Doing Your Job? You Don’t Know. No One Does.

In the Library with the Lead Pipe » How Well Are You Doing Your Job? You Don’t Know. No One Does. | VirtualLibrarySchool | Scoop.it

In Brief: The outputs librarians are measuring are not directly associated with specific practices that lead to improved lives for the people we serve. If we cannot make that connection, we have no way of knowing how well we are doing our jobs. This article suggests four measurable outcomes that libraries and librarians could use to make sure their activities are improving their constituents’ well-being, and also use in comparing their effectiveness with each other, allowing less effective libraries to learn from libraries that are achieving greater levels of success.

Teaching Without Walls: Life Beyond the Lecture: 8 Tips for Making Beautiful Presentations

Teaching Without Walls: Life Beyond the Lecture: 8 Tips for Making Beautiful Presentations | VirtualLibrarySchool | Scoop.it

by Michele Pecansky-Brock

"Humans are visual creatures. Creating and engaging with visual content was more innate to our species than text.  But beyond the "what came first" argument, we must understand the power of images to engage the affective domain of learning.  For a moment, reflect on your childhood memories. What comes to mind? How much of what you remember is imprinted in memory because someone took photographs of those moments?  "Our personal memories, our lives are shaped through images. And as they have become more accessible to educators, understanding how to use them effectively to persuade, impact, empower, and inspire others is an important part of communicating."
