Should You Buy A VR Headset: What To Look Forward To In 2016 From Oculus Rift To PlayStation VR

Should You Buy A VR Headset: What To Look Forward To In 2016 From Oculus Rift To PlayStation VR | Virtual Worlds & the Digital Future | Scoop.it
Getting a taste of VR isn't expensive. But if you want the full experience in 2016, it's going to cost you.
Philip Solo's insight:

We are still at the 'Wright Bros' stage really with VR and a long way off Caprica or the Star Trek Holodeck but if you do want to buy the 'latest gadgets' ( what will be regarded as a 'huge unwieldy' comedy VR headset in the future), then next year is about the first chance you have to start being 'inside' your gaming..at a price. It's going to happen just like so many other sci fi visions and will soon be the norm

The phrase 'virtual reality' will become as obsolete as faxes, telexes and jobs for life

The phrase 'virtual reality' will become as obsolete as faxes, telexes and jobs for life | Virtual Worlds & the Digital Future | Scoop.it
The phrase 'virtual reality' will become as obsolete as faxes, telexes and jobs for life, The phrase 'virtual reality' is losing its meaning and, with technology further blurring the lines, it will soon be time to leave it behind, writes Will Harris. | Marketing Magazine
Philip Solo's insight:

I think this piece is confused and is really written two different topics in one, neither of which really work together.. the real value of 'virtual reality' isn't going to be measured just by its ability to be be 'real of fake' in the same manner as 'fake brand goods' or how accurately it can represent physical 'real life' experiences through technology (until we have holodeck) There's room for both physical and electronically generated experiences as part of life. The thrill is going to be about creating experiences you cannot do in 'real life', using 'unreal' physics and experiencing imagined worlds and constructs simply unavailable to you in any other form. That's why 'virtual worlds' is a much better term. What's your opinion?

Virtual reality will be huge in 2015, but it won't be perfect for a while | Virtual Worlds & the Digital Future | Scoop.it
Virtual reality is still a virtual reality; until certain aspects evolve, don't expect perfection any time soon. This was never more clear than at this year's CES show in Vegas.
Philip Solo's insight:

Still some way to go yet before you can conduct your sales or business meetings in the equivalent of the Star Trek Holodeck - but watch this space...

Building the incredible upside down skyscraper

Building the incredible upside down skyscraper | Virtual Worlds & the Digital Future | Scoop.it
Living space is at a premium so could inverted skyscrapers and sunken cities become a reality?
Philip Solo's insight:

We've seen so many futuristic underground cities in sci-fi movies, from colonies deep within inhospitable planets to the refuge of Zion in The Matrix, now the trend to build down is happening for real and has architects motivated to outdo each other...We've had 'world's highest tower' many times so how long before 'world's deepest' living space? Will we all be 'looking down' on the super rich soon instead of looking up?

Philip Solo's insight:

What price pixels in virtual environments? After a player forgot to pay the bills for a star system, one epic two day battle in a virtual universe is estimated to have resulted in total damage in game currency of over 10 trillion, the equivalent of $300,000 real life US Dollars. War isn't cheap !
