However, what’s interesting is that Bartle and Ondrejka seem to reach this conclusion based on very different arguments.

The Inter-life project team have developed 3D private islands to help answer this question. The team are looking at two groups, the first are gifted and talented and looked after and accommodated children and the second are first year university students.

Visitors to the islands can engage in creative and confidence building activities in a safe and supportive online environment.

Virtual Disabilities in Virtual Worlds: Being Disabled in Second Life

Virtual Disabilities in Virtual Worlds: Being Disabled in Second Life | Virtual Worlds for Educators | Scoop.it

I tried to get a disabled avatar on my brief excursion into Second Life last year, but failed. I did find a wheelchair after extensive searching, but couldn't sit in it – in fact, I couldn't even get it out of the box."  While the blogger has some solid points, from my experience in Second Life, you can easily find wheelchairs as well as non-attractive/young avatars (which, incidentally, you can modify yourself). You need to be in Second Life a little longer than a "brief" excursion to experience these things.
