Free is not always free. The license is only free for 1TB. Users should pay close attention to the additional hardware and software licenses that may be required. Factors impacting the true cost include processor, memory and storage requirements, and the resulting maintenance, power and cooling. In addition, with virtual storage appliances, split brain scenarios need to be managed through a quorum (a neutral storage host). In order to simultaneously reduce the risk of downtime and data corruption/data loss, the HP StoreVirtual VSA requires 3 on-premises devices.
