Facebook is buying Oculus VR, a startup that makes virtual reality headsets, in a $2 billion deal.

Oculus Rift have sold the company to Facebook. Their view is that it is possible it could be the next big social platform and hopes to draw closer to that goal. Possibly the gaming development or other platfoms may be ignored due to Facebook's focus on social media, only time shall tell if this is a good or bad thing for virtual reality technology.
